(1) Reporters follow the prevailing wind. In the early weeks, Janet was "in" and it was all pro-Janet. In the middle weeks, Janet was "out", and it was all anti-Janet. They will move with whatever the public vote tells them to move with. Never assume the journalists (especially tabloid journalists) won't say whatever they think will sell them papers.
(2) Celebrities want to appear "cool" and "with it", and so will also have a tendency to say they like whomever seems most popular. That said, but at least some of them will give their genuine opinions. Some will like a specific act, some will not, according to their own tastes. A bit like everyone else.
I am sure X Factor will adapt and say they "love" whomever wins. That's the nature of the business.
That said, I still don't think Janet will actually win, nor do I think it would necessarily be good for her if she did. But a slot in the final is a distinct possibility.
