His refusal to come up with the concept first was the only time he really put his foot down and got it totally wrong. But - given that he was faced with a group who would have argued black was white just because he was saying black - I can fully understand where he was coming from with them.
Refusing to back down then showed them that he wasn't prepared to have HIS opinions and ideas ignored on this occasion, and given the teenagers in my family - I am pretty sure that going for the female market was the right decision as the girls are far more interested in smelling nice than the boys are!
As it was - once he had stamped his authorty on the group - he did listen to them, but it was refreshing to see a PM refusing to be cowed by a group who were resisting his leadership (compare him to Tom in the last proper series - he allowed himself to be stomped over by Melody). As I said in another thread - as PM he was going to be in the boardroom if he lost - so he might as well be there for his own decisions rather than anyone else's!
Gbemi's awful design was what lost them the task - had SHE listened to Harry's suggestion of pink or red packaging, and to Lizzie and the designer helping them the packaging would have been a LOT more striking (The pink flames she refused to have would have brightened the dull background up, and the gold frame was just WRONG). Imagine the same packaging with a pink can, with a black mirror frame and black and silver lettering - and it would have made all the difference.
There wasn't much to choose between the ads - so the decision was made on the packaging - RAW stood out better than Vanity did because of its simple style. With two self proclaimed "designers" doing it - Harry's team should have walked that part of the task - but they didn't!
