Sam Nixon and Mark Rhodes both appeared on Pop Idol in 2002 and came third and second respectively, they went on to present many children's TV shows.

Chemmy Alcott is an Olympic skiier.

Sebastian Foucan is supposedly the creator of freerunning, which is running and jumping over buildings, etc.

Andy Akinwolere was a presenter on Blue Peter.

Could there be an 8th woman? Have DOI normally get an odd number of contestants? I know last year had an even number. So I'm just wondering if there possibly could be a missing woman. Maybe Sam was a late addition and he said put Mark in as well as they were a package deal? I actually think this group of skaters is a pretty cool lot. I do think that DOI is up to the standard of SCD, even to the point of taking their asides.

I'm wondering if there's going to be a twist with Sam and Mark, with only one of them surviving week 1.

Didn't they have 16 contestants at the start of last series?

If so, then Matt Wolfenden could still be doing it, and we'd just be waiting on another female celeb.

if this line-up is true then we have the worst collection of z-listers ever on this show.

I actually think the line up is quite good for this kind of show, we all know not to expect George Clooney and Meryl Streep.

Unlike other shows of this type, I don't care if they're not such big names as long as the skating's entertaining. Being so dangerous, it's the hardest show to recruit for so I admire anyone willing to take on the challenge. Even Todd Carty managed more than what I could do!

Andy from Blue Peter? Ouch- he hasn't long been out of the show and is already going in for a reality show. I think that he will be brilliant with his past experience in mind. Looks like a good line up, and I look forward to the show when it begins again in the new year.

Me too. I daren't even go on the ice! Anyway, there are soap stars who still currently in their soaps, so hardly Z list!

It's the show I'd most want to do, but I'd be terrified! From what I've heard about the auditions, they do have to turn down a lot of people, but I think they'll find it much easier to get the younger celebs. I'd argue that learning to skate is more appealing to under thirties than ballroom dancing, especially for the boys, but it takes more guts to risk it all on tv.

You can't mug your way through a skating routine and a lack of skating skills will become apparent very quickly, and being a good dancer or athelete is no guarantee of being a good skater.

There are too many people on the line-up, but it's decent enough. I can see people raising eye-brows at Sam and Mark if they still think of them as people who came runners-up to Michelle McManus, but they have had a fairly successful career as kids tv presenters, and a lot of kids watching will only know them from that. They have as much right to be there as a Blue Peter presenter.

I agree! The first time since Series 1 really. Series 2 had Duncan, 3 had Chris, 4 had Ray, 5 had Danny, and 6 had Sam, Jeff, Vanilla Ice and Colin

Jennifer Ellison - I've heard of her, though not from the soap but as the winner of Hell's Kitchen.
Andy Whyment - I remember from the Royle family.
Keith Chegwin - yes I've hear of him, unfortunately.
Ian Walker - as a sports fan I know he was Spurs goalkeeper - I think his height might prove an obstacle to any sort of success.
Rosemary Conley - I know she's something to do with diet and fitness and is clearly fulfilling the role of older contestant.
Chemmy Alcott - alpine skier. She too I know of. Very attractive - it will be interesting to see if she can adjust her limbs from the alpine ski scene to the technicalities of ice skating.
Sadie Frost - I know of her only through her relationship with Jude Law.

I'm quite impressed that I've actually heard of 7 competitors this year.

That's what comes of posting without reading the whole thread - apparently the line up has changed beyond recognition since I read the OP.
