What Has My Guinea Pig Got Wrong With Him?.
Lee Morris
22-11-2011
Hi! All
The reason I ask the question is because I have two Guinea Pigs and one of them was not drinking or eating properly, he was sort of agressive when it came to drinking but then seemed to have big problems drinking and eating.

I took him to our local vet who ground his teeth down a bit as well as cut his nails and he was still having problems eating and drinking, the vet also gave me medication for him which he had problems taking.

As a result I took him back to the vet and not only did they get him eating and drinking properly but they also found one of his nipples leaking blood, so they removed it but said that the lump that had grown might grow back again.

Is it cancer?.

I look forward to replies.

Thanks in advance.

The lump might be a cyst. He may not be eating or drinking properly because he is in pain. How old is your guinea pig? Is your vet a guinea pig specialist, if not them I would try to find a specialist vet.
Can I direct you over to a guinea pig forum that I use, other more experienced people might be able to help you- www.guineapigforum.co.uk

Hi! All
Thank you for your kind reply LacyLouelle3 and in answer to your question the guinea pig in question is 3 and a half years old, the vet released him yesturday but he is still not able to want to eat or drink properly.

He goes up to the bottle to want to drink as well as the dish to want to eat but is unable to, also his voice does not sound good at all. But he seems lively apart from that and will eat from a syrynge if we hold him.

If he can't eat or drink by himself you need to syringe both water and food into him. This is vital, otherwise he could develop gut stasis. If I was you I would go back to your vet, as there must be something very wrong for him to be off both food and drink.
I hope he gets better.
