Are my cats weird?
Iqoniq

My two cats, Blaze and Sphynx are mad. I'm completely sure of it.

Blaze, seems to enjoy hanging upside down off door frames like some sort of batcat type thing. Sphynx, has proper lost the plot. She'll come into a room and start miaowing at you, like she's having a conversation with you. I've found myself talking to the bloody cat for about 20 minutes and actually having an in depth conversation with her about something that was going on in the news (OK, I know that probably means I've lost the plot as well). This morning though, this morning took the biscuit.

I was sat in my home office, and out the corner of my eye I caught the cat carrying something through the hall. It was one of my socks. Now this in itself isn't a rare occurence. She seems to have a penchant for carrying my socks about if she can get near them. Anyway, I look at her and she drops the sock, gives me her "I'm not happy with you mouthful" and picks it up again and heads off in the direction of the kitchen. About ten minutes later the same thing happens with the second sock. She catches me looking, gives me a mouthful and heads off towards the kitchen. Now I know the socks she had, had been worn so I figured I'd throw them in the washing basket when I went to top up my coffee.

When I eventually go to top up the coffee, whats on top of the wash basket? My socks. Sphynx comes in, gives me a massive mouthful and wanders off, shaking all 4 paws (the last time she was that disgusted with me was when I stuck her in the shower to clean her). Can someone confirm this is not normal?

I know cats take pride in their appearances, but a house proud kitty? I've got a feeling this might be because they're house cats so they're picking up slightly human traits (they will only drink out of a pint glass of water/milk - they won't even entertain bowls of water or milk) because there's usually either me or my wife in the house. It just seems like Sphynx is becoming like a cat version of my wife - never shuts up, quite demanding, a clean freak, prone to emotional outbursts yet I still find her adorable and love her to bits. Typical woman .

Does anyone know of a pet psychologist, because this isn't normal.

Awww... can we have more pictures of Sphynx please

We have three cats; two Oriental and one cross breed Cornish Rex/Moggie. Nothing that they do is normal but the latter cat loves playing with socks

I'd just enjoy their little quirks

Sounds perfectly normal to me.

My Little Mo is a bit "special", bless her.

In the summer, when I am in the garden, she will happily sit on the garden path with an ant between her paws. She will spend absolutely ages watching this tiny ant running around, and she is so gentle with it! She keeps it so that it is running back and forth between her hands. When she has had enough, (can be anything up to half an hour), she just lets the ant go.

It fascinates me.

What gorgoeus little creatures.

Is Blaze a Calico?

I wish I could teach Amber to be house proud.... She does play a mean game of fetcht hough (it has to be a screwed up lottery ticket but she will retrive it from where-ever it is thrown and bring it back )

I could spend all day talking about my girl and her quirks, OH cannot get out of the door in the morning as Amber turns on her charm just as he puts his coat on and rolls around at his feet until he gives her lots of strokes

Haven't you yet realised that cats are totally bonkers, but clever!!

I'd see if Sphynx would bring all your washing down to the basket, your wife would be very grateful I am sure!!

A calico is just a certain marking pattern, so I guess she is. Both cats are from the same litter, but I've heard it's possible for more than one father to be responsible for kittens of the same litter (it's a good job there's not a cat version of Jeremy Kyle). As an asides, calicoes are almost always female because it's the X chromosome that determines the colouration of the cat. If you find a male calico, they're sterile as they'll have an XXY chromosomes as opposed to XY (XX is female) chromosomes.

Blaze is definitely a tart, too. The minute either my wife or I put a coat on, she's at the door writhing around on the floor which means we can't even open the door without having to give her some fuss to move her.

As requested, some more pics...
What you mean I haz big ears? I not even like Noddy!

No she can't, but she can hang upside down on the doorframe! (Sorry the pic is a bit crap, but it is her)

My elder one of two is barmy!

Among her party tricks are "talking" to herself in the early hours of the morning (I've been down to check and there's never antything outside that she can see through the windows) and bringing home anything that resembles a bird or mouse. She quite calmly pinched my neighbours' feather duster a while back and brought it round the corner thinking it was some sort of bird!

Awww, she's telling you get those socks in the wash lol. Cats have all the same content...hunt...eat...purr....play.....fight...sleep....drink....wonder and so forth. But then in comes there own little persona's and whatever that is, is what the cats want it to be. All cats have different personalities and will do all sorts of things. Your cat seems perfectly fine to me and is just doing what she wants. Cats are funny, adorable creatures.

One of my cats is similar. He only drinks out of a specific mug in the Bathroom Sink. Then when he wants filling, he scratches at my bed room door (The nearest) and waits for me to open it before going to sit on the toilet. Then I go into the bathroom and he jumps off the toilet and onto the sink, miowing at the cup, waiting to fill it. Or sometimes when every body is out, when you come back, he is waiting in the kitchen on top of the microwave, staring at a wall, then he jumps up and leads you to his sink again.

Your cat seems normal

Even I get 'shouted at' by the cat and have you ever won an arugement with a cat without resorting to shutting it out of the room or leaving it in the garden???

I love this!

One of my kittens stares at the toaster. There's no toast in it...

Amazing. Blaze does it when I least expect it so by the time I've got the camera, she squiggling for a dismount. Brilliant picture though

All cats are bonkers, that's why they're awesome. I love their different personalities. Gorgeous cats! I love calicos and torties. I'm cracking up at the doorframe pics.

Sphynx is so like my Martha, they could be littermates! She's nearly 5 months old.

*Proud face* Having presented me with a dead fly.

*Cheeky face* Having shredded the box.

Hello. I have incredibly large ears.

This is my other cat Lola.

She had jumped from a clothes horse (I managed to keep that out of shot though) and I did of course remove her safely afterwards
