Hello I am going to be in the USA for a few months and I am interested in the Kindle keyboard 3G. If I was to bring it back to the UK would I then be able to register it on the .co.uk site and would the 3G still work? Thanks

Deleted. I am talking rubbish as I am having a bad day and not reading your post properly. I don't see why you couldn't register it in the UK. They are meant to be used 'globally.' I suspect it purely depends on whether you have it registered with amazon.com or amazon.co.uk. The thing is though Keyboard 3G is the name for the 'old' Kindle. They are designed to be used globally, so the 3G should work in the US or UK. The touchscreen Kindle is the new one. The Kindle Fire I believe will not support 3G.

Mine works fine!

http://client0.cellmaps.com/tabs.html (input: "United Kingdom").

Kindle FIre doesn;t have it, as heavy free 3G internet would overload the whispernet system!

Some things you can;t do in UK, eg, use the Open Library on internet archive (temporary loan of copyright DRM books).

I don't think you'd have to re-register for a different county!

The actual machine will operate anywhere, no problem. However, if it's registered on the US site, you won't be able to download some of the books, as US copyright laws are different. The answer is to buy the Kindle from a shop, without registering it, then register it yourself on the UK Kindle store - I think this should be possible from the USA.

UK/USA copyright differences are via wireless/wi fi network, not website!

So why did Amazon bother having a UK-specific Kindle website?

So they too could sell Kindle's and acessories, I live in Spain and I had to buy a Kindle from Amazon.com. I transferred to Amazon.co.uk staright away with no problem, plus the e'books are cheaper if you want to but them.

OP, you best ask directly at Amazon, they can give you the best answer. AFAIK there's a difference as for used wi-fi channels with enough overlapping, but as I said best ask at the source. They may even have a FAQ for this.
