Haven't they aired the semi-final results show live on the Saturday in recent years since introducing the Sunday result show?
It would of made sense todo that tonight. 10:00pm once the XF had finished would have been a brilliant slot.

The results Next Saturday are LIVE i assume?

Heath Slater was trending number 1 worldwide last night. He is in a show on UK tv. If twitter helps build brands you lot should all know which show he's in and when it's on, right? Right?

Easily the best XF final ever. A fantastic performance at Wembley and it's the first final I genuinely can't call. That itself should boost the ratings a bit, as well as the fact a girlband could win-something unimaginable this time last year.

Really weird business with SCD tonight. It was almost as if they felt everyone would be switching over at 8pm for TXF so needed to get the dances all done by then - which they just about managed. As Tess introduced the final wrap up (which went on for about 6 minutes!), Dermot was doing his pre-titles intro on TXF.

The BBC1 schedule had already been updated earlier today to put Merlin out at 8.10 rather than 8.15, though in reality it only started a couple of minutes early because of the number of trailers between SCD and Merlin.

Perhaps they just wanted to get a fair number of festive trails into that junction, which was odd.

I note they aired a proper trailer for Royal Bodyguard in that junction - doesn't look too bad, but it was pretty much all slapstick and little actual dialogue. I guess it does the job, and I'm sure will get viewers interested.

Great Expectations looks fantastic as well.

Christmas started today - BBC idents, and I put my tree up!

Fantastic SCD semi final, the final could be down in numbers seeing as they announced that the final will be shown in selected cinemas in 3D next week.
TXF has proven itself yet again to be the biggest abomination of music ever by having Leona Lewis bastardising the NIN / Johnny Cash epic Hurt, just saw her cliched Diva version of a modern classic on Youtube, in fairness to her, she's getting loads of hits for all the wrong reasons, I guess any press is good press?
Ah well I guess TXF is consistent in ruining one time good songs. But you know it's all about the music, lol

Lowest X Factor Final performances show then since at least 2006.

EDIT - 2006 had 10.2m (45%), for ITV's sake it has to beat that.

Nice to see SCD winning, not much in it I bet - TXF was super long and last half hour was pure filler. SCD won the peak also. 47.5% & 12.3m

Are you actually surprised though? Since the results show has moved to Sunday the Saturday final never does much better than a normal performances show, so to compare it with anything before 2009 is unfair. The 12.2m peak is about in line with what I expected. A shame SCD had a higher rating as TXF put on a brilliant show last night and deserved to win.

I predicted 10.8m for Strictly and 11.1m for X factor. Looks like I may have got it the wrong way round.

Can't say I agree to be honest, I would have expected over 11m. The series has no momentum what so ever and lowest final performance rating since 2006 shows this. Don't think ITV will be too pleased.

I went 10.6m for both, TXF would have been higher but last 30 mins was pretty poor, Leona Lewis Hurting people's ears and a round-up, I expect rating to have dropped near end.

Last year the final performance show was up +0.4m on the semi final and there was no boost whatsoever in 2009, so I was expecting something in the 10.6-11m range, which it looks like it may have got. They won't be thrilled but it looks like it was in line with sensible expectations.

Oh dear. I think executives at ITV will want this series to end, so they can focus on revamping the show for next year. Most finals in recent years have cleared 13 million, but I think the most telling thing is the share, really. TXF last year often got 47-50% shares; now, it's languishing in the 39-44% range, which probably shows it might be losing its status as event TV. Decent first half of the final, BTW, but will be expecting something massive for tonight. Will be interested to see the ratings for the clash period between SCD and TXF (10 minutes - 8pm - 8.10pm) and how far it dented TXF.

Those numbers prove how stupid BBC1 has been with its white flag scheduling tonight. They should have held firm on SCD (rather than risk folk missing it at its usual time) and put out something better than a Gently repeat.

Silly BBC.

James (ITV) MacLeod quiet on Twitter so far, I expected him to tweet TXF peak inc +1 figure by now - surely it was 13m+.

Not that shocking when you see that ITV played an hour of Justin Bieber in primetime . What were they thinking?! It must've rated awfully and such weak competition probably helped out boost Strictly's figures with people switching over to BBC1 in their droves. TXF rated in line with how I thought it would do given the way the final performance shows have experienced little boost in the last two years (didn't I tell you a few weeks ago there was a possibility of SCD winning!), Strictly though did about half a million better than my prediction. I guess the early 6.30pm start for SCD wasn't really a damaging factor in the end considering in the 7pm hour it must've faced the weakest non-final competition it has ever done. SCD up y-o-y too after a few weeks of being lower, which is good news for it heading towards the finale.

Exactly. TXF rated in line with expectations whilst SCD was a bit higher than expectations, probably because it was against Bieber which I suspect was sub-2m. Really stupid scheduling and they basically handed SCD victory on a plate. The only explanation for the Bieber scheduling I can think of is that they got it (pretty much) for free due to the record label funding it. I'd have at least swapped it with the Westlife special though.
