Just imagine if Eastendes does air at 8:30pm Christmas Day and clashes with both Corrie and Downton, the upraor would be unbelievable. Danny Cohen would be hounded out of TV Centre worse than Gaddafi out of Libya.

So, Eastenders becomes the centre piece of BBC One's Christmas night entertainment ?
Bit of a comedown. And 'stEnders is a bloody big show, it's normally the highest rated show on the day anyway, so clearly people want to see it. |

BBC have won back the rights to the World Athletics Championships for 2015 and 2017.
2017 is in London so a very good purchase by the Beeb. Their sports portfolio is look increasingly sured up now. |

US Ratings Wednesday November 23
ABC cruised to victory on Thanksgiving Eve but unsurprisingly their original line-up hit season and/or series lows across the board. The Middle dropped 17% to a season low, Suburgatory was down 14% to a series low, Modern Family was down 20% to a season low, Happy Endings was down 16% to a season low and Revenge dropped 19% to a series low. Why, exactly, ABC thought sticking with their original line-up was a good idea I have no idea. Elsewhere the lure of a double elimination didn’t do much to help The X Factor on Fox it was down 19% on last week’s results show (which aired on a Thursday) and also posted a series low. The Mobbed special that aired at 9PM was way down on the original special that aired out of American Idol last year. Also worthy of note is that the ABC comedies at 8PM tied The X Factor in the demo and beat it in total viewers. NBC’s Up All Night, the only other standard original of the night, also hit a series low dropping 21%. CBS was all repeats including a Survivor recap special, The CW also in repeats for the night with a Top Model recap special at 9PM. I’m not entirely sure what the two-hour Biggest Loser special on NBC was but I assume some kind of recap special. ABC 8PM: The Middle – 2.5 [9.09] 8:30PM: Suburgatory – 2.5 [8.32] 9PM: Modern Family – 4.5 [12.65] 9:30PM: Happy Endings – 2.7 [7.22] 10PM: Revenge – 2.1 [7.34] CBS 8PM: Survivor [r] – 1.9 [7.85] 9PM: Criminal Minds [r] – 1.8 [8.23] 10PM: CSI [r] – 1.6 [7.26] Fox 8PM: The X Factor Results – 2.5 [8.51] 9PM: Mobbed – 1.6 [4.70] NBC 8PM: Up All Night – 1.5 [4.33] 8:30PM: Up All Night [r] – 1.0 [2.99] 9PM: Biggest Loser Special – 1.2 [3.69] The CW 8PM: America’s Next Top Model [r] – 0.3 [0.86] 9PM: America’s Next Top Model [r] – 0.4 [0.99] |

No, it's not aired without an XF lead-in before.
If say, ITV go with: 18.00- Emmerdale, 19.00- Corrie, 20.00- All Star Family Fortunes, 21.00- Downton Abbey (basically same as last year apart from DA)... EastEnders could air at 8pm and will get the top rating of the night. But then that would leave BBC1's 9pm-11pm programmes exposed, I guess, so EE might have to be scheduled for 9pm to keep viewers stuck to BBC1. As for last night, how did The One Show get 5.3m? Who was on? |

A strong night for ITV1 tonight ought rate well, I wonder if IAC can buck the recent ratings trend - live eviction could rate 9m, though 90mins makes for a long show and numerous ad breaks. |

Assuming having Downton on Xmas Day is true, for the first in about 10 years, ITV hold a good hand of cards for Xmas Day
There are two options, If the decide to air something like ASFF at 8pm, this will give the BBC an opportunity to give EE a nice easy high rating slot, and also a chance that Downton will also win it's slot. If the BBC then decide to fight Downton and put EE at 9pm, this then gives ITV the right to put Corrie on at 8pm increasing Downton's lead-in. The adverts won't matter because as it's a Christmas special, even if it annoys people, it doesn't matter as it's only one episode, there is no backlash continuing to other episodes to deal with. |

IIRC, doesn't ITV have to announce their schedule earlier than BBC (or was that years ago, when selling the ad slots meant that they had to let their "customers" know before their "viewers"?)

Thanks to Elgin for the following updates from DigiGuide: Quote:
- One of The Royle Family Christmas specials (presumably last year's) is repeated at 9 on Sunday 18th.
Also, there is a 20 minute BBC News bulletin down for 10pm on Christmas Day. One would hope that is a spoiler tactic, and that BBC One is not closing up shop early and waving the white flag... |

This is marked as a repeat of the 2000 special. Whether a spoiler tactic in the provisionals at the moment, who knows.

That would be counter productive, Family Fortunes would drain the audience down a hole meaning Downton Abbey would only get ~5m. It's got to be Coronation Street then Downton immediately after for the latter to do really well in my opinion.
As for last night, how did The One Show get 5.3m? Who was on?

Presumably Downton could be brought forward to 8.30pm in this scenario ?
5.30pm All Star Family Fortunes 6.30pm Emmerdale 7.30pm Coronation Street 8.30pm Downton Abbey |

Because advertisers are still willing to pay the top rate for the programmes. If they weren't, ABC wouldn't put it on.
1 - ABC now owes a lot of make good because everything was down 15-20% 2 - 'Top rate' actually translates to selling spots at a 15-20% reduction The significance of the black Friday advertising is massively overstated in why ABC continue to do this as evidenced by the fact none of the other networks are bothering. If ABC were still pulling top ad rates on Thanksgiving Eve then everyone else would be business as usual as well. |

DigiGuide has updated with some ITV1 data for week 51:
* The Boat That Rocked premieres on ITV1 / HD at 10pm (time TBC) on Saturday 17th December. * Millionaire: Christmas Special now starts at 9pm on Monday 19th December with Corrie as normal at 8:30pm. * The Millies 2011 will air from 9pm-10:30pm on Wednesday 21st December. * You've Been Framed! At Christmas will air on Friday 23rd December at 8pm. The Boat That Rocked isn't a great film but if they're going to air it that night they may as well pull it forwards to 9pm as nothing else they put there will do any better. Looks like a decent slot for The Millies, which always rate solidly. As for Christmas Day, my revised guess is:BBC1 3:10 FILM: Ratatouille 4:50 FILM: Monsters vs Aliens 6:15 BBC News 6:30 The Gruffalo's Child 7:00 Doctor Who 8:00 EastEnders 8:35 Strictly Come Dancing 9:35 EastEnders 10:15 The Royal Bodyguard 10:45 Michael McIntyre's Christmas Roadshow 11:45 BBC News With ITV basically forced to go: 3:10 FILM: Mamma Mia 5:15 ITV News 5:30 You've Been Framed 6:00 Emmerdale 7:00 Coronation Street 8:00 Downton Abbey 10:00 ITV News 10:15 FILM: Love Actually BBC1 could have a really good night with this, with Who keeping Corrie in check and double EE wrapped around Strictly given TRB a terrific lead in at 10:15pm against little competition. Having said that Love Actually could do well at 10:15 mopping up younger EE viewers who aren't interested in TRB. |

The Big Bang Theory is definitely the new Friends on E4:
Monday 6:30pm: 862k (inc. +1) Tuesday 6:30pm: 762k (inc. +1) Considering last week's new episode averaged 881k (inc. +1), those are amazing figures for the reruns. People can't get enough of this show at the moment. E4 really did need to lose Friends but they need to get the 8pm slot especially right - it's a bit of a dumping ground at the moment, with Charlies' Angels to air on Wednesdays from next week I think, though the E4 promos leave you in no doubt how awful it is. |
