Strange how you carry on with this view even though the ratings have been posted a few posts above showing that IAC is still rating strongly and is showing no signs of a trend of decline.

Amy Childs hasn't been the ratings force that I thought she would be. She came 4th on Big Brother and her new show has flopped pretty largely. I'm not sure how she will do in the new series to be honest, it seems she is pretty niche.

Celebrity Big Brother should be game for 2 million a night considering the buzz around it now is increasing that X-Factor has finished and Channel 5 have upped promotion. What's the betting Williamson is a contestant?!

Celebrity Wedding Planners should also do well in the slot its given as it is perfect for the youth audience and Jedward should be a draw. It seems like Channel 5 could be turning a corner in this new year actually. Usually I slag off most of there shows but some of these that are being announced actually do look very interesting/ guilty pleasure. WPMS CBB, CWP and BOP will be watched in our household!

No surprise there - and didn't even raise £1m in the hour by the sounds of it. Launching it as part of The X Factor final (however poorly rated) would have made more sense - and at least they know how to do the montage to get the sympathy texts.


However you spin that it's a poor figure - should have at least cleared 1m.


So the BBC yet again get the better knock out games - ITV pay a hefty price for their guaranteed England group games, and I don't think it's worth losing a semi final and having to share the final. ITV really should have aimed to get the final exclusive in return for giving up the semi finals having not shown it in 2008.

Agreed. Amy Childs' show should be pulled. Impossible was pulled from the exact same slot with more or less the same numbers. It's only still there I'm guessing because they're hoping the arrival of CBB in a few weeks will give it a second wind. We'll have to wait and see on that.

She did deny she'd even been approached for The Bachelorette in a recent interview, so maybe that won't even materialise. Although it wouldn't surprise me if it did happen.

I didn't think it would clear 1m as Pineapple Express was a premiere last week and couldn't manage it. Superbad only managed 1.3 for its premiere last year. The problem with both films is there's a lot of swearing/sex/drugs etc and they have a very narrow target demographic which means they are never going to be huge rating films, but the good thing about them is they are very popular with younger viewers, and that was the only reason I pointed that out.

Karen isn't on the Ice Panel - the panel is Robin, Louie and Katarina Witt.

I'm caught between two minds on Dancing On Ice. If the BBC keep the never ending Countrywise/Antiques Roadshow duo going against it then it could find it tough though I think it should hold up against last year's launch and if it can just get another Kyran Bracken or a battle like Chris v Suzanne then it may build. I think Jason was pretty disliked by the end so I doubt many people will tune out over him and Louie will be used sparingly like Bruno on Strictly so he shouldn't be too overbearing. Hopefully.

I saw the Tsunami show on+1, and it was difficult to watch, the speed of it all happening really brought it home.

It was brilliant documentary. I feel Channel 4 are always the best for this kind of thing ( aswell as with comedy)

I think that sums it up. Basically X Factor has reverted back to being a big hit as opposed to a mega hit in much the same way as BGT did a year previously. Where it goes from here depends on the contestants firstly and the buzz that the show can create which involves the right chemistry from the judges.

Last nights show was a touch low compared to my expectations (maybe 300k 400k ish).

Text Santa was low too. I can understand putting it on Christmas Eve as its usually an evening when people are too busy to devote a full evening to tv (apart from those who have no kids and have mothers to make their dinner the next day).

Just looking at the latest BARB weekly ratings, those Foyle War repeats on ITV3 are getting some seriously big numbers for the channel. All of those repeats rated around the 1m mark, which boosted ITV3 to a record weekly share of 3.1% (same week last year had 2.1%). ITV should get the hint that there's an audience out there for this show and ought to bring it back for a new series.

Also, Family Guy getting 0.9m in a 11pm slot on BBC3 is brilliant too. Thankfully, Zai Bennett recently said on POV that despite speculation about the show moving to another channel, BBC3 have got the rights to it for the next "few years".

A talent contest or light entertainment, it's not really a reality show even it is distantly linked to the genre. However, whatever you call it, the show is ITV's biggest hit and I still think 11 million will tune in next spring.

I think they ran out of war.

Apparently the company which was producing the show went into administration and then there was a legal battle over who owned the rights to Foyle's War (as well as some other shows) so ITV couldn't really recommission it at the time. I think it's all been settled now so they ought to be able to finally recommission it now.

Talking about a recommission is there any word if Doc Martin is returning.

Part of me hopes it won't because the ending was so good.

yes it ran up to Aug 1945 after VE day and the general election. I doubt 1946-47 would make great entertainment - no war, continuing rationing, Britain broke.

Anyway Foyle always said he wanted out of the police as soon as the war was over so it would be a bit weird for him to stay on post war.

I dont know a single woman who could resist that, or many guys, who wouldnt turn gay watching that promo.


who am I to criticise ITV?

Martin Clunes has hinted that there'll be another series, though I don't think it'll be officially announced for months because they won't film it until 2013. But word is that it's quite likely to be the last series.

I remember an ITV drama called The Spoils Of War about families adjusting to life after the war has ended. Looking up IMDB, I see it ran for three series in 1980 and 1981.

Post war, you had men being demobbed from the army and returning home to families that they had been away from for years. Many people found it a struggle.

I think that would make an interesting angle for a new series of the brilliant Foyle's War.

The final of The Apprentice should do better tonight as for the last 4 weeks it has faced I'm a Celeb, much easier competition tonight.

However I've heard that after last week's fiasco with the twist of firing a member of the winning team, even those who were watching it have lost interest. Next year's series should probably be on in an off peak slot.

Well, if ITV are happy enough with it to agree with it, what's the problem? We all heard the Beeb were in a weak negotiating position, the rumours were they wouldn't show it at all. If England don't get out of the group, it's a bloody good deal for ITV because it means they get two guaranteed England games compared to the Beeb's one, and the interesting ones in the group to boot. I'm surprised they didn't get a semi-final but that's their decision, if they didn't agree the Beeb didn't have them at gunpoint. Seemingly they're thinking Ireland are a bigger draw, which i fair enough.

And it was their decision not to show the final in 2008, they could have if they wanted to, so why should the Beeb have to concede? I want to watch it on the BBC, and so do loads more people.

It's too derivative and smacks of let's base a show on a C list celebrity who might be the new Katie Price, but most people don't give a damn about. Channel 5 could do well avoifing this type of reality show as it has been done to death on ITV2 and the downfall of Katie Price on Living should set alarm bells ringing.
Channel 5 do try well, but should avoid the trashy reality trap as there is just too much of it around.

Neither England nor the Republic of Ireland will be bothering the final stages of the tournament IMHO. ITV are just recognising reality behind the hype & hope that always goes with these tournaments.

Yes I agree. And whilst we're at it could we get a memo out to all broadcasters that structured reality is not the next big thing and TOWIE was just a one off. Thanks!

They are not even that popular on ITV 2. Jedward and The Saturdays both flopped in this genre. It depends hugely on the celebrity they use and I don't think Childs ( & especially Ecclestone) have the fan base to support the longevity of these shows. Only Price and Andre have found true success within this format, as well as the Kardashians on E!

When it does celebrity, 5 usually does it pretty well in a "light hearted just enjoy it" way but the last three reality type shows we have seen done ( Amy, Tamera and Jodie) have been poor offerings. Hopefully Wedding Planners and WPMS will steer the channel into that direction again.
