Well after May Channel 5 won't care as the contract has ended. However, they could be kicking themselves if the final involves the two Manchester teams and ratings hit 8 million, but OTOH if it involves Norwegian Nonentities versus Latvia Losers, then they won't be upset. This tournament shows its real worth by being one of the few Sky and the two main channels aren't bothered about.

Caught the end before This is England last night and still can't understand how a show about wedding dresses is so ridiculously popular.

This is England wasn't too grim or heavy last night either so should retain a decent audience tonight I'd have thought.

So that counters the usual argument about how shows would rate better if on the BBC.

I doubt they would as it isn't the done thing here and it would hurt ratings, but it could I guess air in weeks without the football and with the breaks in the US still air a finale pretty soon after the US version. They could also move it to 10pm - would be a better fit after the football than something like Amy Childs!

Not really. It just mainly shows that the Royal Variety airing on BBC1 normally faces tougher competition (i.e. Corrie/Emmerdale/The Bill) which dents its average, compared to when the Royal Variety airs on ITV1.

I think two blocks in autumn and spring for any US drama is fine - but think Sky have made a mistake in the same week strategy in the US when it's on a couple of weeks, off a couple of weeks etc.

I'd run flagship shows in those autumn/spring slots, with second tier imports airing in two blocks when they take a break - so Jan-Mar and June-Sept.

ITV were bothered enough to secure the 1st pick rights from 2012 onwards.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm already hearing good things about it from family and friends. I'm recording all 3 eps to watch back-to-back over the weekend.

Great ratings for it last night, too. It was a really good idea to schedule it after BFGW.

Fulham knocked out of the Europa League with the (literally)LAST touch of the game.

I think it's more likely that it'll back in February on Fridays once CBB is over. Unlike last year, they're not as close to the US airing so in theory they'll be able to air it without interruption until May.

Body of Proof is also scheduled for Tuesdays at 9pm, wonder if it'll stay at 9pm or be moved back once CSI returns.

I doubt Channel 5 will be depressed at losing Fulham; they have gained the Manchester clubs after all.

Dire night for ITV1; why are they so happy to let Tuesday collapse? BBC One and Channel 4 really benefited with very strong ratings from both.

Fulham would have been a good addition although with the two Manchester clubs, I doubt Fulham would have been first picked by Channel 5.

Given that Liverpool matches did 2-2.5m average, I expect Man City to do 1.8-2m while Man United to do 2.5-3m. I think if it is an all English final, I expect 5-6m average for the match.

Why did 2005 get such a high rating? I would have thought 2009 would have been the highest as it was Susan Boyle's year, still outshines all the other years since BGT started though I guess. Just wondering what was particularly interesting about 2005 though.

I doubt they're too happy about it! But it doesn't seem like they're particularly bothered about improving the situation. Tuesdays are to ITV what Fridays are to the US networks.

w/e 11 Dec 2005
BBC1

SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR (SUN 2000) 5.06m
BBC2
TOP GEAR (SUN 2002) 4.76m
ITV1
THE ROYAL VARIETY PERFORMANCE (SUN 2004) 9.82m

Oddly there was some healthy competition that night, but SPOTY was a non Olympic/Football Tournament year and didn't rate huge (Andrew Flintoff won it). RVP was Will Young, Shirley Bassey, Andre Bocelli.

Can't do much worse than some of Channel 5's offerings of late, a perfect replacement for OKTV and probably a damn sight more entertaining

I sensed RVP would be lower this year (I went for 7.4m on RPG) but 6.8m seems way too low, although it was on ITV1. Maybe 2 hrs 45 mins is a little too long for viewers to sit through the whole show.

How long was last year's BBC1 show? Must've been 2 hours.
