There was an identical double page piece in the Mirror on Saturday.

I think the only paper left that hasn't switched allegiance to Strictly is The Sun.

I suspect The Sun will still be supporting TXF when it's genuinely dying, as they seem very loyal to Cowell's shows in general (although I suspect even they admitted Red or Black was crap). It's worth remembering that despite TXF losing viewers it's still #1, so it's no real surprise that The Sun are still backing it. Equally it's no surprise that The Mirror aren't as they have never been as 'in' with the Cowell shows as The Sun (they never seem to get the exclusives for example). The Mail just backs whoever suits them at the time of writing the article (so generally nobody as they're usually slagging something off!). Whilst the broadsheets are naturally much less involved them backing Strictly over TXF probably makes sense for them in terms of the positions of the two shows this year.

I suspect The Star might still be backing TXF, but I can't say I take any notice of anything The Star does or says, and I'd question whether it counts as a 'newspaper' anyway.

We're certainly in interesting times though, with TXF experiencing something of a fall from grace, and I'm already looking forward to seeing what will happen with the two shows next year. Will TXF continue to fall or will it rebound? Will Strictly continue to perform as well as this year, decline or even rise? It'll be interesting. I suspect ITV might look to BGT to restore a bit of goodwill towards the Cowell shows as an overall brand to help TXF when it returns. BGT is actually looking healthier than TXF just now (despite the lower series average), which I certainly wasn't expecting to be the case at the end of last year!

Any idea of the Saturday night line-ups from January ? Something like this ?

ITV1 : Primeval, TV Burp, Take Me Out, The Exit List ?

As noted previously I have no idea. This is just one of the many examples of nonsensical scheduling that we see every year from ABC that defies any and all logic. Like airing originals against The Grammy Awards despite the obvious audience crossover or the complete lack of any logical pattern to switching between repeats and originals.


That they aired Revenge last night is mind boggling to me. They should really be going out of their way to protect that show and giving it every chance to at least maintain its audience not airing it on the eve of a national holiday that always depresses viewing figures. The comedies are more forgivable since the audience can just dip in and out of them with ease.

I wonder how Britain's Got Talent would have looked without Simon Cowell boosting the final week? Saying that, I think it only needs minor adjustments to the panel before the new series. The X Factor needs to bring the fun back; Kelly and especially Gary have just made it too serious.

Not exactly soaring in the ratings as it comes to a climax? That.probably includes the repeat too, so I'll wager it was in the high 7s only against a poor effort for BBC1 and soap hour lead in.

I too expected IAC to do better than 8.3m even if that doesn't include +1.
