Daly may have the charisma of a pea, but he was huge on MTV for years, so I guess for a music show trying to be taken seriously he was a good call.
I think someone like Zane Lowe would have been good, but he's probably too left field for MOR Saturday night entertainment shows.
Zane Lowe would have been incredibly left field. But I doubt it's his type of music as he's more indie.

Typical overreaction regarding Reggie Yates and The Voice. He is only co-presenter, if you dont like him then the amount of screen time he will have his minimal. Just which male presenter would people not have moaned about?

The BBC are wisely getting young talent as that's the demo that they find hard to attract, Holly, Reggie and Jessie J should all help with that. All they need now is 2 of the 3 remaining mentors to be older, well respected music personalities to make sure that they dont alientate the older audience.
Yeah young people are quite shallow and will look at any nice face. But you need that little bit extra to really make a show fly. Personally I would have used Matt Edmondson, Ed Petrie or a VERY left field choice in Simon Amstell. They could definitely bring some wit to the proceedings.

On the HBO/Cinemax debate.

It is worth noting that over the past year in particular HBO has made much more of an effort to reposition Cinemax and its branding and as a result the HBO/Cinemax labeling is starting to pick-up a little more moment (and HBO do appear to be encouraging it a little bit). I'd point out that for UK press releases in particular the HBO/Cinemax label is largely down to the fact that people don't really know what Cinemax is here whereas HBO is much more widely known brand so people want to make that connection. Which makes sense. In general its all pretty meaningless though.

It doesn't need wit though. The whole point of The Voice is that its supposed to be about the voices of the contestants. This is a show that will live or die by the quality of the talent on the show not the quality or style of the presenters.

That would have been inspired, he could have done the whole droll sense of humour, would have been a nice angle. In saying all that I've never seen the show nor do I know the format, but I find Yates SO irritating on the festival shows he does over the Summer.

So I assume 3rd rate porn (which Strike Back certainly wasn't) will appear on BBC One next year?.
I suspect not as BBC ONE is a mainstream terrestrial channel and doesn't usually broadcast porn in primetime but with the influence of CINEMAX who knows

But journalists, even US ones do. From AOL:-

You can't blame Sky press releases for that.
Er yes I can as it was picked up from a British media report.

Here is the Cinemax release for you again just because you seem to be find it hard to read Cinemax's own words. Should also have a look at their website

HIT ACTION SERIES STRIKE BACK RETURNS TO

CINEMAX FOR SEASON TWO IN 2012

NEW YORK, Oct. 6, 2011 – The hit action series STRIKE BACK will return to CINEMAX in 2012 for a second season of ten new episodes, which will begin shooting in South Africa in early 2012 and air later in the year. CINEMAX/HBO will again produce the series with partners Left Bank and Sky, who will air the series in the U.K. The series marks the first time the two broadcasters have co-produced an original series together.

Left Bank’s Andy Harries will return as executive producer, and series producer Michael Casey and head of production Marigo Kehoe will also return. Sky’s Huw Kennair-Jones will executive produce. Also returning are Bill Eagles (“Beautiful Creatures”; director of episodes 3 and 4), who will direct four new episodes, Paul Wilmshurst (“Hiroshima”; director of episodes 7 and 8), who will direct two episodes, and Tony Saint (“Margaret Thatcher: The Long Walk to Finchley”; writer of episodes 9 and 10), who will write a number of episodes and co-executive produce.

Currently debuting new episodes Fridays at 10:00 p.m. (ET/PT), STRIKE BACK concludes its first season Oct. 21.

STRIKE BACK is a CINEMAX Presentation in association with British Sky Broadcasting Limited; a Left Bank Pictures Production.

...and the fact that the same person, Kary Antholis is one day green lighting Strike Back and Nemesis for Cinemax and the next day The Pacific and Mildred Pierce for HBO.

No different to one person at Sky commissioning a scripted drama or comedy for Sky Atlantic or Sky One.

I don't suppose any of the C5 executives also work on Desmond's 'tart on sofa' channels.

Yep because a Corporate supervisory role makes Cinemax a HBO channel
Desperate times eh?

well this HBO/Cinemax has proved a "distraction" form the Christmas listings, thankfully they should be out soon.

Different companys owned bya larger parent company dont have to have same branding at all, and will only do so, when it suits them. You dont see Desmond prefixing all his company's with Northen & Shell do you?

I have and it says at the bottom "copyright Home Box Office". If as you're saying it's a separate company it would say "copyright Time Warner" who own HBO/Cinemax.

Im guessing that "Nemesis" is the same show the BBC announced months ago but was called "Morton" back then?

Er, No it wouldn't have had to. It's pretty clear what the story is from the Cinemax's own press releases

I don't care anymore, I already won this argument in August.
Anyone can read the press release or their website for themselves.

Just deal with it Derek, Cinemax are happy with their status, so should you.
This was even more entertaining than the time you said The Soprano's and Big Love reruns that litter Sky Atlantic were originals not repeats because it was their first time being shown in HD.

Confirmation on Twitter that the BBC have extended their exclusive Six Nations deal till 2017, as we pretty much already knew.

http://twitter.com/#!/bbcsport

If Robbie's looking for a direct reason the F1 coverage has been reduced - then try blaming this, rather than The Voice.

EDIT: Ah, beaten to it.

---

On The Voice news - not particularly amazing, but frankly the hosts are of secondary importance to other factors. Holly is a perfectly fine choice anyway - they could have perhaps found someone better from Radio instead of Reggie, but it's not a disaster.

The choice of judges is far, far more pivotal and will probably make or break this. So far, so good with the selection of Jessie J - but the delay in announcing more names does make me wonder if they're struggling otherwise...

Interesting.

Am I right in saying that this just leaves The Masters and the MOTD highlights as the other big contracts that the BBC have yet to tie up?

The Premier League rights should be auctioned in the Spring, and presumably they will put up quite a fight to keep the MOTD highlights.

The Masters have yet to announce a new deal with the BBC/Sky, last years sharing arrangement was only a one year deal.

So effectively so far, despite the cuts, the only major sporting contract that the BBC have 'given up' is F1? And obviously they will still be showing half the races live.

Oh dear Lord Derek, Cinemax is not HBO branded channel deal with it. I don't care anymore, I already won this argument in August.
But I've never said it's branded HBO, that's the whole point. I've just said that Cinemax is an HBO channel. So if any press release (Sky's or today's from the BBC) says HBO/Cinemax they're factually correct. You seem to have an issue with HBO and Cinemax being used together. The end!!!!

I do wonder if the 'not before 10' rule might be bent this year, with the FA/Sky's agreement. If not, then just air Norton at 9.35 and MOTD at 10.20, with NYL at 11.45.
If you're going to do that, though, you may as well just put Norton on the night before, because it won't seem very special there. They don't have to bother with New Year Live, they could slot the bongs and fireworks in Norton if that began around 11.30, it wouldn't mean Norton has to be live. They've already cut down New Year Live from the hour or so it got about five years ago to just 25 minutes last year.

BBC extends contract to broadcast Six Nations rugby on TV, radio & online up to and including 2017
So once more ITV won't show any live rugby of any importance until the next World Cup. I know they've got their ITV4 highlights shows but for the casual fans that doesn't mean much. We always get comments about how well ITV do the World Cup and how well it does for them commercially, yet it never leads to anything.

It isn't even under the supervision of HBO, Kary Antholis is only there as corporate supervisor as she has dealt with co productions with British companies before on co productions of Five days and The tsunami film.
Oh yeah and I haven't used 'branding' in all my posts so it downright idiotic of you to spin my argument that way, this late in the day.

You seem to have an issue with HBO and Cinemax being used together.
Yep, I have a problem with people telling lies. That's so terrible of me.
The fact all you can find to back up what you say is an AOL article from a British media story is quite telling.

Thats my last post on it. Derek, you can refer to it as HBO Cinemax, HBO Porn or whatever, if that makes you feel better

So they are losing a Corrie ? Presumably because there will be additional Corrie over the Christmas weekend ?

Jonathan Ross Christmas Show Friday 23rd 9pm - 10.15pm

There will be lots of festive fun on the Christmas Special of The Jonathan Ross Show.

Jonathan will be chatting to one of the biggest names in show business - none other than Tom Cruise. The Hollywood icon will be telling Jonathan all about his new film Mission Impossible 4.

The cast of The Inbetweeners will also be on the sofa talking about their recent transition from TV actors to movie stars!

Jonathan will also welcome the sisters from Downton Abbey onto the show. Jessica Brown Finlay, Laura Carmichael, and Michelle Dockery will reveal what it’s like starring on one of the most popular dramas of our time and will also spill the beans on what we can expect from the Downton Abbey Christmas Special.

As if that wasn’t enough, comedian and composer Tim Minchin will perform a specially written Christmas song, and there will also be a performance from Italian trio Il Volo – the teenage tenors who made a name for themselves on American Idol.

So we can presume from that synopsis that Downton Abbey won't have aired before Fri 23rd December.
