Well you dont have much to look forward to this year. 5 days in a row of the awful Eastenders misery from Friday 23rd to Tuesday 27th, the usual kiddie animated films, a few contrived Christmas specials. Big deal. If it wasnt for the curfew imposed on people on the 25th the ratings would be pretty low all round. Its enough to make you want to emigrate some where warm...

Almost as predictable as your annual anti-Christmas rants. Yes, we get it. Christmas doesn't really matter to ITV, so there's little for you to get exited about once the TXF final is done with.
Apart from this year, with ITV's workaday Christmas line up, making the day as special as an October Sunday.

if that is even half as good as its been the past two days, then its going to be better than anything ITV will air, and I include in that Downton Abbey.

it has actually been rating better in the last few weeks but the politics and the back biting campaigns in the press (and a few on the internet with axes to grind
) have done for it so its too late, unfortunately. What's the desire to gloat at people when they are down - ftv? Revenge, inability to move on perhaps?

The people on the internet wouldn't have the power to influence what happens on Daybreak. Daybreak was done in by Daybreak. I think it's improved and Adrian & Christine are taking the blame but why is it just them that have to leave?

The editor has changed recently and it was probably his call on presenters.

I think the Beeb will ensure it is more high profile this year. Saunders was on Norton last night and the return of AbFab certainly went down well with his audience, as did the brief clip.they showed which had one good joke in it at least. Boy did they look old though.
With the cast being in their 40s, 60s and 80s, perhaps it will do ok in attracting the Downton jam makers from the same age group?
All that said, they simply have to move TRB to Xmas Day where it should get at the very worst 8-9m which might be towards the top end of what it could get in an "easier" Boxing Day slot.
I remain to be convinced how many families will sit in silence on a special night of the year for two hours whilst mum and granny watch DA live. People want a mixed bag of drama comedy and entertainment in bite sized chunks, which is why BBC1 does so well year after year.
Apart from when Titanic delivered 3 hours of period drama. There's a lesson there...

As Downton is on ITV, and you're not a period drama fan, I would suggest you have never watched Downton? If this is the case, you can not make that statement with any credibility.
I have never missed a Downton episode. I have also watched EastEnders for as long as I can remember. Yes, EE episodes have been good this week - but IMO, they are still nowhere near Downton Abbey for me...

I doubt they want to see junkie advertising exec's either. Ab Fab never was as popular with the average viewer as it was with media/ newspaper types. Neither are French & Saunders. It really isnt family viewing unlike Downton.

Has it been doing better because Chiles and Blakey aren't on it as much? When I've tuned in lately I've seen John Stapleton, Penny Smith, and others who actually seem to be enjoying what they are doing - perhaps as they slowly bring back GMTV in all but name, the ratings will ease back upwards?

Despite all your posts, you do watch a lot of ITV. There's hope for you yet.Chiles has a lot of football commitments. With away fixtures he is off 2 days a week often. That plus working weekends and his being missing for nearly 2 months next summer anyway, makes it less of a big deal. If they really want to occupy him they can give him a role in ITVs expanding football coverage - Europa League. Its not like Gary Linekar and Alan Hansen on a million a year for 38 days work

I do not understand this squabbling about BBC1 and ITV1 ratings on Christmas day...
ITV, as a commercial PSB business, have been less interested in the Xmas day schedules as there is not much money to be made - which is not good enough.
BBC1 do not have to make money from advertising to pay for their programming, so can show what they like. Therefore - as the main PSB TV provider - they should and do provide a quality mix of entertaining programming on a day where so many people are at home in front of the TV.
The ratings should not matter to the BBC, as this is not the point of the corporation, and ITV should be applauded for bringing up the quality of their output on Christmas Day - which also keeps BBC on their toes...
Whoever wins, I am glad that it is not just the BBC putting effort into Christmas day TV - but also the number one commercial channel too. My PVR is going to be whirring away all over the festive period as there seems to be quite a bit of new comedy and drama which appeals to me from both channels...

Robbie & George's less than impartial posts should be viewed for the comedy value that they are and taken with several very large pinches of salt. Neither work for the channels they love and defend them far more than the people that work there.
