The other way round. Mr Wolf increasingly thwarted in his efforts to snare the sheep he was once so adept at capturing, whereas the solidly efficient sheepdog proving far more effective at doing so, and upsetting Mr Wolf at regular opportunities...

Poor for the BBC. A poor episode of HIGNFY which resembled an edition of Question Time in places (someone needs to rein in Hislop, it's a comedy show), and with a duff choice of foppish host from a period drama (I had to google him). Good episode of Apollo but a shocking rating which BBC should bear in kind before confirming the Macintyre scheduling.

QI needs to come home to BBC1 before it dies an undeserved death.

I haven't seen HIGNFY yet, but I was wondering who the host was when I caught a glimpse of the trail!

I think you're right about McIntyre too. Apollo and Comedy Roadshow are different shows to ratings anoraks like us, but they're one and the same to most viewers, and there will not be a stampede to watch Comedy Roadshow on Xmas Night. I think a lot of viewers will just assume it's another repeat, as they probably do with Apollo these days.

When we're waiting for the ratings and I see in the sub-forum index that the "last post" is by rzt, I know there's a very good chance that the ratings have arrived.

AS for WILTY - BBC1 should have promoted it more as a compilation of unseen bits. People thought it was a compilation of best bits. Annoyed.

I'm sure you'd be just as favourable about celeb filled idents over Christmas (well, mid-December) if that's what ITV were up to this year. Awful promo and looks like the idents will be equally unbearable.

HIGNFY was presented by a star of Britains biggest drama programme. The reaction on twitter was very positive to him and indeed it was actually funny and topical for once. Its been a long time since that was the case.

BBC1 was deservedly poor. Lifeless At The Apollo should be going out at 10.35pm. There was more fun to be had reading tweets slating Kielty than watching his act it seems. Comedians just aren't particularly popular with Joe Public unless it's Michael McIntyre.

Also what numpty put Would I Lie To You on at 8.30pm? Nobody will watch that, should have put it on at 9.30pm.

Some conclusions we might draw from it (and bearing in mind we know this was filmed in October, before the BBC were 100% certain Downton was turning up to spoil the party):

- Shane Richie's presence presumably means Jim'll Fix It is a key featured show too (he'd have been with Jessie I assume if he was there "for Eastenders"?)

- Anne Robinson is in it. Assuming there's no Watchdog Christmas Special, what's she there for?

- Nick Knowles means a DIY SOS special? Or a returning Lottery Draws show?

- Alexander Armstrong, unless he's in something else, presumably presents the HIGNFY Christmas episode

You also have Mrs Brown in there. Is there a BBC Breakfast Christmas special? I only ask because they're in it.

It seems to me that there isn't much so they filled it up with loads of BBC1 faces to make up numbers rather than because they've got loads of hit shows. Is Alexander Armstrong doing a Pointless Christmas special? That's why I'd say he's in there. He's doing far more on Channel 4 this Christmas rather than BBC1.
