I do sort of feel sorry for you Andy because you clearly are so bothered about so called "BBC fanboys" and every injustice that ITV suffer in this thread.

Going by this years approach, the BBC would not move Strictly out of The X Factor's way unless it benefits them. They're not doing it for ITV's sake. I think they fear that a live show would hurt a pre-recorded programme.

On a Christmas day rating note, I've just been looking back at the last few Christmases and its fascinating to note how well the BBC did in 2007.
They had a 50%+ consolidated share for a 4 hour period between 16:40 and 20:30 (comprising Shrek 2, BBC News, EastEnders, Doctor Who and EastEnders). Just proves how much of a difference a good film block in the afternoon makes. That year saw the Pixar and Dreamworks deals yielding two very popular films; Finding Nemo and Shrek 2 were an unbeatable combination. I'm not sure when the next combination like that will be - 2013 maybe (Toy Story 3 & Shrek 4) |

That's Britain really has to be seen to be believed - they've just run a VT of cars running over potholes, to "funny music" and applause from the studio audience.

I cant see why they would think that though. Its Strictly's semi-final result and everyone knows X Factor will be in full padding mode for the first 30 mins. And weve seen before, Stricty's audience arent the type that go scouring the net for spoilers.

So how are ITV1 scratching BBC One's back? The only thing I can think of is maybe keeping Downton Abbey away from Christmas Day.

Julia Bradbury has a lovely pair of legs to look at, but Jesus wept, That's Britain might just be the worst hour of telly I've seen this year. So bad, it's awful.
This was the last 5 minutes... Julia points out that 'Dog Poo' was the most complained about subject on their "Word Wall". Nick Knowles "Let's see how that's changed". And the new updated wall reveals the most complained about subject is...still Dog Poo. "And you've been getting in contact with us! Do we have any e-mails?" Julia "I don't think we have" (Cue researcher rushing into shot) "Oh, there we go!". Nick "Spitting is a nasty habit says this e-mail and offenders should be fined and taken to court. I agree with that one I think". Bus conductors are a good idea but should be paid danger money says another". Julia "Well earlier...." Nick COMPLETELY ignores her and carries on reading the e-mails ![]() Julia is eventually allowed to reveal the results of a poll as to whether bus conductors should return. 81% said yes. At which point Shaun Williamson (Barry from EastEnders) comes on to the set, punching the air, shouting "GET IN THERE!" (I know you think I am making this up, I am not) ![]() Nick thanks Shaun "The best bus conductor in the country!". Shaun, by the way, isn't bald anymore. Now imagine 1 hour of inappropriate applause, pointless stories, meaningless chat, inane dialogue. A must watch on iplayer

Worse than I feared, obviously drawing inspiration from that woeful Noel Edmonds show on Sky. It'll still get about 4 million I bet.

It might be for Downton or an agreement that ITV do BBC a favour in the future. We wont ever know for sure.

Although ITV have put filler up against it next Wednesday in the hour from 7.30pm rather than the soaps, so it could increase for episode 2.

Chelsea now on the brink of not qualifying for the next stage of Champions League.
Imagine if Man U, Chelsea & Man City don't make it through.

Although to be honest if I were the BBC I'd probably be more inclined to go with a Toy Story 3 and How To Train Your Dragon. In fact unless my timeline on this is terrible 2012 as a whole should be pretty fantastic for the BBC when it comes to big family films - Up (surely they're holding that back for New Years Day?), The Princess and the Frog, Toy Story 3, Shrek 4 and How To Train Your Dragon. Also on a related note who got the rights to Coraline and Fantastic Mr Fox? Those must surely be on course for an airing this Christmas period. |
