They aired more often than that, though seemingly not counted for ratings purposes. I found one CBS Evening News report from Thanksgiving on youtube for example, whereas it's reported ratings are Mon/Tue only
Which then leads to the question, how useful are those ratings. NBC is Mon/Tue/Fri, ABC Mon/Tue/Wed and CBS Mon/Tue (according to TV Newser). It's not a fair comparison at all
