I notice Corrie only has 1 ep on the 30th Dec. suggesting that it'll air NYD
ITV's NYD did look a bit bare last year without the soaps IIRC, TMO and Primeval

EE has a massive NYD ep. that should pull in 12m if advertised, a good lead in for Sherlock
8pm EE
8.30pm Sherlock
are the Beeb airing Bolt NYD?

Perhaps. You'd have thought they'd have been keen to stake their own claim on NYD, though. It they did go out with EE (8pm), Sherlock (8.30pm) and Ab Fab (10pm) then thats nigh-on unstoppable. In any case, I imagine the BBC will want to use EastEnders (which will probably be the best-rated episode of the festive season) to support their other main offering.

Faced with that, ITV might well decide to opt for a controlled retreat. Put Corrie at 7.30, a Poirot/Marple at 8 and wait till Monday to pitch Endeavour against Public Enemies in what would be a much more winnable fight.

I think ITV1 would want to put Above Suspicion, Monday-Wednesday but I think Tuesday-Thursday would work although they may want to launch a new drama that night like they did last January. Think Endeavour will attract the same audience who likes Morse/Lewis so i think launching on 2nd January would be better than pitting it against Sherlock on NYD.

When Coronation Street is back on Wednesdays, move Waterloo Road back to 8pm?”

All I would say re your point about the US ratings excel is they are the official figures as compiled by Neilsen and, as far as I know, the only ratings we have for those programmes. Why Neilsen would only choose to rate three in a week I don't know !

I think an increasingly bullish ITV would have no qualms about going 8.30 Corrie and 9pm Endeavour against that, killing off s2 of Sherlock at birth, given their approach to the Downton scheduling. Above Suspicion will clearly launch on the Monday also with a Corie lead in, not Tuesday with a Holby non-lead in.

No need for anyone to watch it now, with the Mail (DA's core demographic) having revealed the entire plot to its readers!

So the big story is a trial then (over Christmas??). A trusted soap opera staple of many years.

The Boxing Day shooting party could be a first though, unless Emmerdale did it when it was still a rural soap...

Sounds like they are taking on EastEnders in more way than one!

It looks as though Dynasty Abbey may be rivalling Eastenders in the festive misery stakes this year.

You make that sound as if ITV would be doing something wrong there. Which they wouldn't. All's fair in love and TV scheduling.

Couldn't see any ratings articles in the usual places yet. Media Guardian seem to be over doing the Jeremy Clarkson outrage though with their top 6 most recent articles all about it at the top of the page. http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/television

On the X Factor website it says Coldplay perform on the Sunday. And the finalists only sing two songs on the Saturday (as opposed to 2 + celebrity duets in previous years).

With Coldplay Sunday only, either the duets are with ex-contestants (woop!) or have been dropped/moved to Sunday/yet to be revealed?

Eastenders really struggled against that hour long Emmerdale last night. Only BGT week is saving that from the lowest rating of the year award. DS have the tape checked figure at 5.61m (23.2%), which would make it the 4th lowest rating of the year behind two BGT clashes and the BBC2 episode during Wimbledon.

EDIT: EE had 1.77m (8.8%) on BBC3, which might be its highest ever I think.

From a lead in from the also excellent Rev, which is also performing badly. I'm sure like other weeks they will timeshift well.
