Apologies if this has been answered earlier, but what is the reason for replacing the two repeats of Him and Her on BBC3 this week. Set the PVR to record the first repeat and got Little Britain. I see it is the same tonight. Not available on iplayer either.

BECAUSE ITV+1 IS A DIFFERENT BLOODY CHANNEL!!! Why not include BBC2's ratings to BBC1's? That way you could say that during 7 until 8 last night, BBC1 had near on 14 million viewers.
Quote:
For subscribers, BARB-reported bureauxs actually do give the option to automatically include +1 with the parent channel. So just like HD, although BARB may report those channels separately on their website, subscribers of BARB's data bureauxs have data available to them which do automatically include +1/HD.
One thing you need to consider though is that a +1 channel being in place means that the parent channel (ITV1 in this case) doesn't rate as well as they would do if the +1 channel wasn't in place - the parent channel's figures are depressed as viewers are given an extra option to miss the original showing. Let me give you last night as an example: if ITV1+1 didn't exist, do you really honestly believe that TXF would've still had 10.26m? I very much doubt it would've been the same, it would've rated higher. Many of those +1ers last night, if ITV1+1 wasn't available, would've watched TXF either live or via timeshift later in the day and been included in the ITV1 overnights and it probably would've been ahead of SCD's 10.33m. ITV1+1 (as with all +1 channels) give viewers who may have watched the original broadcast an alternative option to watch later on and in many cases this can depress the 'original showing' rating. So whilst people may say including +1 inflates the figures, the way I see it: including +1 inflates the ratings in relation to parent channel figures which are depressed, so it somewhat balances out. And of course, let's not forget, one of the beneficiaries of ITV1+1 being in existence is BBC1 because viewers who are 50/50 about watching a show on BBC1 or ITV1 at the same time are now probably slightly more likely to watch the BBC1 show 'live' compared to a year ago as they know they can definitely catch the ITV1 show one hour later on the timeshift channel - that no doubt boosts the BBC1 ratings ever so slightly. You're obviously happy to accept Merlin had 5.66m last night - but would it have necessarily got 5.66m if ITV1 +1 wasn't in place? It's possible about 100k of those Merlin viewers last night were potentially XF viewers who would've watched XF live had ITV1+1 wasn't in place. So Merlin might've benefited from ITV1+1's existance and BBC1's figures could be "inflated" slightly. Incidentally, if BBC1+1 was in existance, I would happily lump in their figures, just like how I've been lumping in C4+1's figures for years (you can have a look at the BB Ratings Thread for examples), ITV1+1's for the last year and how I shall look at the C5+1-included figures when it launches next week. For me, it's not a matter of being biased to try and inflate a programme's ratings, but it's a matter of common sense: overnights are Live + Same Day so I personally don't see much difference in including same-day timeshift viewers of this method, and this is what ultimately broadcasters, advertisers, the producers, cast and crew working on TV shows look at to judge the success of a series and decisions on recommissioning etc. |

Dec was on the Chris Moyles Show 1-2 weeks ago and he pretty much said that Saturday Night Takeaway wouldn't be back until 2013. The ITV press release about Ant & Dec renewing their contract didn't specifically say SNT would be back in 2012.

It's a shame that this will presumably be the only Two Ronnie stuff we get on telly from now on, because I don't want to see Ronnie B looking so ill. Surely it wouldn't be too hard just to put some new compilations together, especially as these had to be re-edited to half an hour. It's like how the only Not The Nine O'Clock News we ever get now are the rubbish badly edited 1995 compilations.
It would be nice to see some new compilations for primetime. |

It seems to me that, with all the various ways of seeing a show, the "truest" ratings for individual programmes nowadays are the "live+7"-style, adding together:
The first showing (ie VOSDAL) Any HD showing Any +1 showing Any narrative repeat (or a %age of) within 7 days Any online viewing within 7 days But as derek500 would then note... why stop at 7 days!? K |

Interesting, I had assumed it would be back early next year. I wonder what ITV will have on Saturday nights in Q1 next year then? So far all we know is TV Burp, Take Me Out and Jonathan Ross, but a schedule of just those shows seems a bit bare, and would mean that JR would be on too early. They need something else on at 7/7:30pm, and preferably a bigger show. I hope they aren't planning to air Primeval there again, but even if they are that's only 6 weeks so they'll need something else. Media Guardian confirmed in an article the other day that Push The Button has been axed so it won't be that, and we haven't heard anything about Red or Black yet so I doubt it'll be that either. Meanwhile on another website it says that the producers of The Exit List seemed to think that it would be airing on Sundays in the Spring, so it probably won't be that either. There's the old suggestion of having DOI across the weekend but they don't seem to want to do that for some reason, so therefore unless they've got something else lined up their Q1 Saturday night schedule could look really thin, and The Voice could get a really easy launch, as I'm assuming it'll be launching in mid-March, and BGT probably won't be back until mid-April.

There are a couple of Two Ronnies shows in the BBC One daytime schedule for Christmas week, but I don't know what they are because I haven't got a Christmas TV mag yet.
It would be nice to see some new compilations for primetime. Thursday 29th December 2.35pm The Two Ronnies Sketchbook Both from 2005 when the Ronnies reunited to recall the best Two Ronnies sketches. |

Hmmm, yeah Q1 Saturdays does look thin for ITV1 next year without Saturday Night Takeaway. Unless Take Me Out is given a big push and somehow takes off, that schedule will be quite comfortably beaten by a BBC1 lineup of Total Wipeout/In It To Win It/National Lottery/Casualty (and then Let's Dance and The Voice). Wasn't there talk about Play Your Cards Right returning? Maybe if the pilot goes okay, that'll be given a full run for early next year. But that's hardly going to be that big of a ratings winner anyway. I also can't see The Exit List doing well - it'll do reasonably well in the 16-34s but like The Cube and other gameshows like this, I can't see the 55s+ watching it and that's going to be a problem in terms of its overall total rating (I predict it'll struggle to average 4m).
6.00 The Exit List 7.00 Dancing On Ice 9.00 Take Me Out 10.15 News ------------------------------------ 7.00 The Cube 8.00 Dancing On Ice: The Skate Off 9.00 Wild At Heart 10.00 That Sunday Night Show |

Even ITV wouldn't have double Schofield. The Exit List though could take the Sunday 7pm slot - or filler like Family Fortunes etc.

what exactly is this The Exit List? It looks like a show ideally titled for the Tuesday Night Flop Zone.

K I believe they're working on extending the 7 day window, I know BARB are using direct output from Sky boxes to do this already. |

Sounds like the name of a behind the scenes documentary on Simon Cowell's attempts to refresh the judging panels on his talent contests in (another) attempt to revive the ratings....

that should be a 5 minute skit in the first episode of X-Factor next year.
![]() Not that I think the judges make a great deal of difference. It's just a good excuse to justify declining ratings as viewers get bored of the general format. |

You're right, we don't know, but it will mainly depend on what programme it is.
If it's something like QI on Dave Ja Vu or One Foot In The Grave on Gold+1 then the chances are most viewers are just looking for something to watch at that time and wouldn't have bothered watching the programme if the +1 channel didn't exist. But with something like X Factor, this is a programme most of its viewers want to watch rather than just tune in if there's nothing better to see. So if +1 didn't exist the likelihood is that the majority of +1 viewers would make extra effort to watch or record the original screening. And if they recorded at 8 and watched at 9 then they'd be included in the overnights. |

The thing about Merlin is that demographically, the audience is older than the X Factor so we could take it that the Merlin audience probably wouldn't watch The X factor. One thing about the X Factor is that the +1 showing has voting restrictions so if people genuinely wanted to watch The X Factor they probably would when it aired live. RZT, your post was fabulous and I very much appreciate the time and effort you have taken in writing it in order to come up with a reasoned and logical argument to my points instead of just brandishing me pathetic like Brekkie did.

The trouble is, some people who watch more than once will counted as new viewers (be like the old days when they added the EE omnibus to the weekday showings). I don't expect many +1 viewers watch the original too. Perhaps they've got the technology to weed out duplication?...

Sounds like a stupid question, but what would ITV do if Simon Cowell decided to cancel next year's XF due to it not being THE show of the year? I know it still does very well, but obviously he's none too pleased with SCD outperforming it and the relative failure of Red or Black.

The failure of Red or Black? means Simon wouldn't dare withdraw The X Factor yet. I can't imagine ITV are the happiest bunnies with him at the moment anyway and Britain's Got Talent has a lot of room to grow and change like Opportunity Knocks and he won't risk that.

Inside Facebook is trending on Twitter. High ratings? or maybe not as it's users of one social network talking about another social network so it's probably expected.
I'm a Celeb always seems to run one week too early for me, maybe next year both IAC & TXF should run start a week later and finish a week later? |
