What's with the EmFm ratings boost?
Has another plane crashed, or are the lesbian vets getting it on in a wine bar? (I might have to tune in... )Either that or it's because ITV have been heavily trailing it this week due to
Spoiler
Another soap whodunnit. How original.:yawn::yawn::yawn:

Daybreak is basically just not doing the 3 days between Xmas & New Year where it would usually appear. There is very little point doing a show that finishes at 8:30am when most of the population are having a lie-in.
Of course at the end of the eighties and into the nineties, the Beeb would do full length Six O'Clock and Nine O'Clock Newses, plus a full length regional news at 6.30, on the days between Christmas and New Year, which wouldn't happen now (insert smartarse dumbing down-related comment here). Quote:
Under Suspicion Sunday / Monday ?

Bleak Old Shop of Stuff looks like a right hoot, is it just a one-off or is there going to be a series?

Quite poor schedules there. I know the assumption is that everyone goes out on New Year's Eve but even so!

Do C5 get absolute first pick every week or is it structured so they can't just show Man Utd?
Quote:
Exactly. Bizarre coupling.

If the BBC has first pick every round then they could follow England all the way to the final if we do well. Presumably they will toss up again after round 1, and for subsequent rounds?
All sounds a bit of a lottery to me... Quote:

)Having now obtained (and memorised the entire contents of) the Christmas Radio Times, it doesn't look so bad, the festive season though I'm surprised at how often BBC1 comedy goes up against BBC2 comedy, especially in the second week when it seems to happen after ten o'clock every night, which surely is the first rule of scheduling. Also, C4's line-up looks hugely ropey, I think Home For The Holidays could get a tiny audience and they seem to be going for entertainment on Christmas Night which seems pointless when BBC1 have that market wrapped up. Also, how many shows has Pip Schofield got on ITV? He's on every night! |

What do you want to add on the extra 4 viewers likely to be watching on +1.
Also since C5's primetime target is 1m, on nights like last night where programmes are very near to that level, +1 could mean the difference between them being the right side of that 1m mark and the wrong side. |

That Broadcast article is quite worrying for Channel 5. All that money spent doesn't seem to have impacted on ratings or the 16-34 demographic...

Well, it's a one-off for now, but it's based on a radio series so presumably there's scope for a series if it goes down well. I dunno if they'd be able to get the cast together for a series, mind.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/comedy/20...of-stuff.shtml But as you say, the cast could be a bit of a problem for a proper run in the future. The Borrowers looks like it might have the same problem. The writer has said he's cooking up ideas for a whole series if the one-off is successful at Christmas - but again it would be next to impossible to retain the same cast if they did. |

Endeavour should do really well although I'm guessing Mamma Mia going to Wednesday. I think ITV are eyeing it as a replacement for Lewis although Lewis isn't doing badly, Kevin Whately want to end the show on a high.

ITV have done poorly in 2011 if you consider overall TV viewing has held up well, despite all the non-TV entertainments around nowadays.
I blame their relentlessly low-brow focus with only the occasional 9pm drama to break it up. |

One hopes TRB/MBB won't be staying on Mondays now and going out opposite Endeavour!
At least it looks like what we got last night was only a draft, so maybe that 1h10 EE will become x2 35 min episodes leading in to Sherlock and something else on NYD? When are the wk1 schedules confirmed? |

There is a short series to follow the Christmas episode - three more half-hours "early next year".

The writer has said he's cooking up ideas for a whole series if the one-off is successful at Christmas - but again it would be next to impossible to retain the same cast if they did. The Borrowers seems like an odd thing for the BBC to put to series though. Where would they schedule it? It doesn't seem like it'll be 'exciting' enough to hold its own in the Saturday night family drama slot which would probably leave a Sunday evening slot which seems like an odd place to schedule something with such a starry cast. I suppose, if it goes down well, it could become an annual part of the BBC1 Christmas schedule. Maybe a Borrowers mini-series stripped across the Christmas period. I suspect The Bleak Old Shop... is more likely to be commissioned as a series of specials rather than a full series. Or you'd have to ditch half the cast. |

Looks like the Beeb have been stitched up good and proper there then with ITV's late switch bringing Endeavour to Monday to kill off the sitcoms
They were not going to give a film repeat a Corrie lead in and a prime Bank Holiday slot and then Launch what could be their biggest banker drama in years in a normal Wednesday night slot with a Lead in from 'The Unforgettable' |
