Some bizarre goings on with BBC One tonight, they run straight into Strictly at 18:30 after My Family with no trailers and Strictly appears very rushed for the first 10 minutes. Then by the end of Strictly they're padding and its underrun by 5 minutes. We then get about 5 trailers pre-Merlin and post-Merlin followed by a 1m30s ident form-up post Casualty. Poor broadcast planning it seems...

Maybe Brucie had to go somewhere. Perhaps he'll be a surprise guest on X Factor later tonight plugging his new album.

Yes-most peculiar. First dance only had one judge comment-then a mixture of three or four views. Make it up as we go along kind of stuff.

That Happened once ONLY.
Twitter had 8 Strictly Trending topics tonight and 3 of which were worldwide
Having trending topics doesnt necessarily mean great telly. Im a fan, just pointing out that tonights show wasnt the smoothest of rides.

....and the first set of dances interlude stuff was very poor.

We know Twitter doesn't necessarily mean anything but the Worldwide trends are constantly changing with X Factor related phrases.

At times for the first few mins Tess & co seemed to have forgotten lines and i can't understand why the over run of my family but then Strictly seemed to have finished earlier than planned.

I looked at twitter and most posts were positive which was what i was getting at

Downton Abbey trailer appeared at 8.15 junction of X Factor...
Interestingly it said 'Christmas Day, 9pm' and not 'Coming Soon', wise decision to make viewers aware early of the day and time.

The soaps appear to be low as well; maybe everyone went out last night so they could stay in for the Strictly semi final/The X Factor final tonight? Considering their relative ratings over the series I'll find it hard to believe but...
...I was out last night. Although I'm not on the BARB panel, so I don't count!

Very odd. Maybe someone high up in the chain thought it finishes at 8:00pm instead of 8:15pm?

EDIT: Looking in the Strictly thread, all the dances and main scores were finished by about 8:03pm... which will almost certainly drag down the overnight rating.

Trending
Strictly was still trending at 9 Pm when X factor was on air

My family was also trending which i've not seen before so could that have had a good figure tonight?

So was The Chase. I think Twitter have actually changed their algorithms so that things that are 'immediately' popular trend. So more show names trend.

Lol-the UK Championships have finished early on BBC2 so three guesses as to what the filler is?

No need for any guesses really-its Coast! Must be the most convenient programme ever-able to fit into any slot, anytime, anywhere.

I am proud to say that I have nothing to do with Twitter or Facebook or any of that crap. DS is as far as I go with modern technology.

And now I know why Strictly ended five minutes early - so that TOWIE could guest on the National Lottery and plug their Christmas single.

The BBC is often accused of dumbing down but they've hit rock bottom here. I am a big BBC supporter but I'm now going to start actively campaigning to have the corporation closed down. <shakes head in dismay>

I think that's quite common in the lead up to Christmas - suspect the BBC will do the same with their main shows.

Anyone would think they were itching to watch The X Factor!

I'm guessing ITV have shown a promo for Take Me Out considering it is... umm... what's the word, begins with 't'....

Anyway, that's interesting considering it won't start for at least 4 weeks - earliest possible start date being January 7th. I guess it's to make up for them not having a preview show after The X Factor Final like last year.

BBC1 ran a trailer for Earthflight just before the final episode of Frozen Planet on Wednesday and announced the start date even though that isn't until the 29th.

ITV tend to show promos early at this time of year to try and continue bridge the gap between the high ratings of autumn and the winter season.

They've already run a 'ITV Sport in 2012' trailer, no doubt there will be a 'Dramas this winter' trailer or similar showing up soon.

Probably. My family tends to trail one pace behind with most new technology - video recorders, DVD players, digital TV, mobile phones.

I don't do Facebook but i do like twitter.
Would most people do one or the other rather than both?

If you can't wait until tomorrow, the SCD finalists have been revealed in the studio (see the forum for 'TV', 'Strictly Come Dancing' and 'the last spoiler thread' if you want to know who'll be dancing in Blackpool next week).

I dunno. There's plenty of people that have both and of course lets not forget Tumbler,Bebo,My Space too

I'd be lost without my mobile. It's one of my must have's but i guess somepeople like to be in the dark ages

I expect you have a black & white TV still

Great episode of Casualty earlier tonight but the episode in hand should have been broadcast next weekend in an SCD sandwich, or even on Xmas Eve (I don't know why the BBC shy away from showing Casualty during the Xmas period - Xmas Eve, Xmas Day, Boxing Day). It will be slaughtered by TXF - speaking of TXF, I decided to tune in after several weeks just to see the final, and again, quite bored. The series has not gained any momentum and I wouldn't be surprised to still see it in the 10 million zone (not that it's bad, but by TXF's standards, not exactly brilliant).

Haven't they aired the semi-final results show live on the Saturday in recent years since introducing the Sunday result show?
