I think that poster meant me actually - embittered is my middle name Joe is great -sticks up for his fave, says what he thinks, criticises but never gets nasty about the other acts. And he's funny & rational which is always a plus.

That list really does put sales into perspective! Calling Noel and Liam/Beady 'debut acts' is stretching it a bit yeah If being on the XF gives you a leg up, what does being part of a much-adored ( l loved them too), recently broken-up supergroup do for you? Its amazing to think Jessie J and Ed S are debuts too isnt it? They seem to have been around for ages, but their music has been out there a long time through singles I guess. So yeah - its a sign of how very well Matt (and Cher) are doing in the real world. BTW did you notice Mary is there too- at 19? I saw on one thread that she's now with Universal and has a new album coming, which is great - she always seemed a sweetheart & very funny in the backstage VTs.

I liked Mary in the context of the show - she can sing and my dad used to play the sort of music Mary likes to sing, so there's a little bit of nostalgia for me too. Having said that, I would never buy her albums. Although if I was told I had to see either Mary or Rebecca live, I would choose Mary every time.

Brilliant! Mary B must be thrilled to be on that list too. What really surprises me is that Bieber's not on it - hasn't he released an album recently?
I supppose Matt'll move down a couple of places when the year is up, once Rihanna and 1D sales are known, and then there's Amy W's new album out soon, and Kate Bush's one seems to be selling well - even so, he'll still be well up in the top 20 WELL DONE MATT

As Big Poy says its debut albums. 1D will be added in so he may move down one but the rest you mention wont Talking of Bieber... I seem to remember his album didn't do anything near as well as Letters here though it was out at the same time- or did I get that wrong?

Yes it is - 1D will push Matt down a spot undoubtedly - but that would still leave him top 10 . And as I said earlier, mentally I don't count Noel G in this - hardly a debut album in real terms.

Bieber was out about 2 weeks after Letters, charted at 13 and spent about 2/3 weeks in the top 40. Just read that Prof Green has only sold 63k so far, so he's not even caught up to Matt's first week sales yet

I think he release Matt's 3rd week and it entered at #13 when Matt was still holding at #12. I am pretty sure the sales were as low as 13K. It dropped straight back out of the top 40 the following week. As far as the UK goes, I think it is a bit of one of those "smoke & mirrors" things. The tabloids squeee all over him, because they perceive the YT hits mean that every girl aged 8-16 is obsessed with him. I suspect that it's a case that girls in that demograph have moved onto 1D.

Gosh - I thought he dropped out faster than that - but I bow to your superior charts knowledge - probs wishful thinking on my part.

Twitter - I had noticed he was getting close to the 500K mark. I also see he is now following 99 people, it crossed my mined that his"once in a lifetime" competition may be to become his 100th follow.............

Ah thanks for that. I thought I remembered being surprised by how badly he did here. Pixie Lott was someone else who surprised me or has she picked up? Im not really following that closely.

When Olly hit half a million twitter followers he did a special YT to celebrate which was kinda sweet. Maybe Matt'll do the same. Or maybe not.

Pixie's at 39 in the update... isn't it only her 2nd week? It's a shame she's not done better... I copied her album off a friend and it's pretty good.

No Pixie didn't pick up at all - yet she had a #1 single only a few months ago. Kelly Clarkson also was disappointing - I thought she was really going to do well on album sales, Mr Know-It-All is a great track and has had loads of airplay. It's really difficult to spot who will do well on album sales at the moment. The normal patterns for prior years just doesn't seem to be there.

Re Olly, twitter and YT. Olly (or is it his team?) is far more switched on than Matt and his team when it comes to promotion. Olly - very wisely - takes every and any opportunity to communicate with his core fans. I wish Matt would follow that pattern a bit more - it stops people from losing interest and moving onto someone else.

I wonder if the competition will not actually be the number of shares a fan has done but something else, like either a random pick or something you have to write, like, reasons Matt should come to your house??
