I've only had to do two power cycles since I got the HDR, it's an extreamly reliable and stable box.

With Six Recordings and Deletes every single a day... mostly unseen.. for over Two Years.. I have never done a Factory Reset.and runs permanently on 70% Full..
Of late .. the Special HD Recordings we have made and kept of the likes of 'The Wizard of Oz' ..'Strictly'..etc we are only just for the first time seeing their resolution as fresh as ever it was.. since the Hitachi Plasma blew up in April this year..However..
I still am miffed that the 'Guide' even now does not function as it did for the first year..
I guess there have been so few Box failures that statistically there is not yet a pattern emerging..
I wonder how many a month Humax still sell?..as i get a call every 3 to 4 months asking me to return to Sky at half price..

The power around here is a bit iffy - but nomally within the HDR's wide power range. (we have overhead cables) so I have to forgive a bit I think.

I can force a reboot at will, do a scan and then select lots of channels to delete by pressing ok, it will freeze and reboot.

Apart from that, I have a few freezes and a few missed recordings but thats never been the problem with it, its been the insane usability and firmware.

I've had a couple of 0min recordings recently, 1 was the day before 4HD moved to 1N and the other was the day of the move, and a supposedly broken recording of Living With The Amish on C4+1 that was originally set for 4HD but had to be moved to C4+1 due to the EPG bug that occurred on 4HD after the move to 1N, that turned out to be around a minuite clipped from the beginning and aprox the same from the end making the recording 58mins instead of 1hr so housekeeping couldn't create the thumbnails for it.

I also tend to use my HDR as a Tivo stye box and watch just about everything after it's been recorded to avoid the clash in recording something on 1 tuner while watching something on the other tuner and then having a tuner clash when something wants to record while both tuners are in use. If Tivo brought out a Freesat PVR I'd definitely get one if it had three tuners like the VM Tivo.

A power cycle seems to have sorted it. The programme audio in the EPG is also now doing the 'on/off/on' that I've seen mentioned in other threads when I set a recording.

The issue has come back twice now. The audio on/off within EPG also stops. So for me at least this update is not a permanent solution.

Try a freesat tune and don't save the results.

I think I've finally worked it out. I have to give the HDR a few seconds just sat showing a live transmission before doing anything else. Because I never watch anything live I usually go straight to the Media section or the Guide itself and that's what causing the issue. I can actually clear the message by stopping playback and exiting Media completely. The trick seems to be to wait until the red dot icon appears on screen. After that it works as expected.

I had a bizarre, related problem last night with my HDR. Went to record something from the EPG and got the "waiting for..." message. This was using "Sched/Red" not guide (.17 firmware). Tried a live manual recording but pressing record did nothing. Checked nothing else was recording at the time. Tried power cycling through standby, no difference.

Tried power cycling using the switch on the rear, and when it booted it came up with just the channel name on the i-plate banner, no time or other info. Tried to look at EPG but got a message "not possible until system time is set" or words to that effect. Waited, no change. Looked at recording schedule, which was blank (should have many entries).

Tried re-booting again from rear power switch with the same result. The box was on ITV1, just out of curiousity I selected "101" for BBC1. As soon as the channel changed the BBC1 banner came up with all the info and time. Checking, everything was back to normal again, including the recording schedule which was fully populated as it should be.

Is it possible that the ITV mux wasn't carrying time info, or the EPG was somehow not being received? All is fine now, but the cure was to change channel! What was all that about??

The only other thing which may have had a bearing on this was that yesterday morning the satellite signal was lost due to absolute torrential rain, came back after 3 or 4 minutes.

You are not alone

Think there was a glitch with the overnight epg refresh so yesterday morning the epg was incomplete.

The usual fix worked for me.

A freesat tune followed by exit and don't save, then pressing guide to fill the epg restored normal service

It's OK this morning, may have been weather related problems with the data uplink.

Same here, if i go straight into media and watch something, its then impossible to then set a recording without farting about.

Its something that needs to be fixed or even better, go back to how it was on the original firmware where there wasnt even a problem with it.

Thanks Graham, that was a really weird one. If it happens again I'll try your fix. Strange that changing to BBC1 fixed it though. I thought the box had finally popped it's clogs this time!

I wonder what it's now doing. Giving it a few seconds of live transmission isn't loading the EPG. I can tell because on my box going straight to guide (or even Sched/red) just shows the guide and you can't set a recording. However drop back to live TV for a few seconds then go back to Guide and now top right it shows 'Receiving programme information...'. You make a recording while that's showing the audio/video comes back on briefly then goes again. Maybe it's looking for something in the live stream and disables EPG loading until its seen it?

Most odd but I can live it with it now I know the answer.

I still dont know why it cant use a free tuner while playing back because that should be easier than interrupting EPG loading as you pointed out. This problem shouldnt even exist and as I said, it worked perfectly before they broke something that never needed to be fixed.

Yeah.

Mind you it's not the only PVR with an issue. My Sky HD box is powered off overnight (timer on the power socket) and although the Guide is available when first brought out of standby and you can make recordings there is no series link information. Curiously the SL info seems to only be loaded when the box is active. No matter how long it's left in standby SL info won't be available for new recordings for ten minutes or so.

Thankfully this doesn't impact existing timers - they will continue to setup future recordings as/when. Seems to just be some strange UI limitation as far as I can tell. I don't know if it impacts the more recent boxes - they finally have a way to power off with the remote so perhaps Sky addressed the issue.
