I'm not sure if I can do this but I'm going to at least try. It's not for financial gain or self-promotion.

After the recent stories of horrific animal abuse (a cat being attacked on CCTV, the dog being dragged by a car, a cat being microwaved to death, a pony being beheaded plus many, many more) I felt compelled to do something.

Having found this petition I have asked everyone I know to sign it, plus I have mentioned it on Facebook and Twitter.

We need 100,000 signatures to get this petition to parliament.

If you love animals, please sign. It's free and only takes 5 minutes.

Thank you.

Oh thank you.

100,000 is a big ask, but we have to try something. People can't get away with animal cruelty anymore!

Signed too, far too many instances of people killing/hurting animals recently and thinking it's a laugh when it my eyes it's akin to torture/murder

Signed!

I know you have mentioned it on FB but have you made page/group for it? I think that will get more signitures, have no idea how twitter works though sorry.

Also, if there's somethings like a Pets At Home page on FB then mention it there too

Good for you, Bonniejo.

I have just signed, and I really hope that this is successful and these 'people'?? that commit these awful acts of cruelty are truly punished.

Good thinking! Not sure how to promote a page though.

Will look into it!

I'm going to do a form and leave them in the local vets. I'll collect it once a month and spend an evening uploading them.

Thanks.

Signed! No excuse for such evil acts, punishment should be far more severe. Thanks for posting OP

l agree in principle with that petition but one of the problems is that magistrates and judges just don't seem to ever get near imposing the existing maximum financial penalties or putting someone in prison. More firm and exemplary sentences under the existing laws would send a strong message that animal cruelty won't be tolerated in the UK.

It's the same with the fly tipping of waste. The maximum penalty is £20,000 but the mode average fine seems to be more like £5,000 for such offences.

I've also signed. Thank you OP for providing the link.

By the way, no doubt you've all heard about the Bradford councillor Robert Payne who beat his four cats to death? His email address at Bradford Council is freely available on the internet:

robert.payne@bradford.gov.uk

I expect Bradford Council will have to close his email address down at some point, as I'm sure it'll be inundated with emails from decent Human Beings!
