So Rebecca Ferguson is the latest person to come out and criticise Rihanna for not being a good role model to teens.

...she added: "[Rihanna] can say 'I've got no kids', but if you want that lifestyle and you want that money, ultimately you are influencing generations and you have to remember that. They will copy you. Popstars should think of their audience."
Do you agree with her? Should Rihanna be taking her younger audience into consideration more often?

I think it's taken slightly out of context, and I've seen a lot of people online Attacking Rebecca for this statement saying that she is the one who is a bad role model for having two children at her age! (Ridiculous, I know)

I agree with her slightly, but the way I read it it is that she herself is a fan of Rihanna but she wouldn't let her own daughter watch her at such a young age.

I mean you can't always protect your children from certain things, especially when someone such as Rihanna is in the media a lot... which is why I guess she's saying it is down to the popstars to not always be so raunchy.

Even though I am a Rihanna fan, yes I do agree with her.

I don't think Rihanna is a BAD role model but she's not a role model really. Her over-sexed innuendos are actually annoying me a bit. Her whole "Talk That Talk" album is about sex or implying it. I like the album but it's not a patch on some of her previous albums.

Rihanna tries to hard to sell sex I think.

Totally agree with her.

I've always thought it strange that parents have no problem letting their kids listen to stuff like Rihanna and Kelly Rowland, yet if they were to go out and buy a Metallica or Iron Maiden CD, they'd be seen as listening to "inappropriate" music.

I love Rihanna, but she is obsessed with sex. Some tracks on her latest album are just filth. I don't have a problem with it myself, but it is starting to come across as a bit OTT. I mean Madonna had her sex phase but it didn't define her career.

I'm worried she's just singing about sex for the sake of it. S&M was pretty dirty but a great pop song. Cockiness however is just a pile of crap and just kinda screams for attention.

This is my opinion too. Rihanna overall is sold on sex. Sexual lyrics, sexual innuendos and dancemoves etc. I also don't think her "sexual songs" are that cleverly written either. I mean the worst has to be "I wanna f*ck you so bad". Madonna did it a bit more "clever" than that.

I guess different strokes for different folks!

The way Rihanna showcases and presents sex is just silly and shallow-minded compared to how Madonna did it

Rebecca is right
But in a way i don't care because not every person who is the public eye ever intends to be a great role model
Who really is great model these days?

This has needed saying for ages but what a shame it's someone just starting out who had the guts to say it.

It is a shame, isn't it?

Much easier for new acts to jump on 9/11 conspiracy theories. I suppose.

Good point actually, I've noticed that Example didn't start voicing his opinions so much until he had a #1 single, as soon as he did, that's when he started insulting Alexandra Burke and Cher Lloyd and all.

Rihanna is a very poor role model for young kids, what she gets up to is not appropriate for them. I don't think that's debatable.

What, however, is debatable is whether she need be one or not, and if it's fair to demand it of her.

In my opinion, if it's fair or if she wanted it to happen or not, is irrelevant because she IS one to many regardless. I accept that she isn't a baby sitter or a school teacher, so demanding she act like a nun as opposed to the 23 year old woman she is would be out of order...but I do think at times she can be very irresponsible with the influence she has.

Her mixture of sex/violence and glamorising pretty dark content can be really misread by some fans. She was retweeting comments along the lines of "The WFL video made me really want a boyfriend", and I mean of course that's likely a minority, but these are the impressionable minds that see her as a role model.

Her latest album as phrases like "suck your cockiness, lick my persuasion", "I wanna **** you right now, "I love it, I love it, I love it when you eat it"...and that's just off the top of my head.

It's not easy to be in her position, and we can all say that it's up to the parents but in reality we KNOW that it isn't as simple as that.

Where or when did Rihanna say she was a role model? - Rebecca is not actually flawless when it comes to being a role model is she? Sounds like Rebecca is doing a Cardle here

You might ask yourself where or when Rebecca said that Rihanna is a bad role model. Because that statement is conspicuous by its absence from the link you provided.

If she actually said it, you can be sure it would have been quoted.

Did you not read as far as the fourth paragraph?

I guess she's joining in with Barlow, but regardless Rebecca's telling it how it is for lots of parents. I've got an 8yo duaghter, it's certainly my view and not confined to Rhianna.

Rebecca is right though. Gary Barlow was saying something similar the other day, although IMO the fault doesn't lie with Rihanna but in the fact that her sordid lyrics are broadcast freely across the TV and radio at any time of the day. Her songs should only be played after a certain time of day. Rihanna's obsession with sex should mean that her air play is limited accordingly.

I don't have kids but if I did I would be horrified if they were singing along and listening to such things at a young age.

She told Yahoo:

I wouldn’t let my daughter watch her. As a woman, I want to teach my daughter that a man should love you for who you are.

They should love you for you as a person, not for how you dress — and you don’t have to be a sexual thing to a man.
And I don't care if you got kids or not, Rihanna isn't a babysitter and she's never said she was a role model, Rebecca should keep her mouth shut if I'm being honest, or join the W.I.

Rihanna's sex songs are pretty tame....her videos on the other hand, not so much.

I don't like it when artists do this though, bad mouth and name drop for attention. Mel C was at it a while ago, and again it was Rihanna.

She's just alienated Rihanna's fanbase - they hate anyone that says something negative about Rihanna lol.

She shouldn't appear on family shows like the X Factor then.

She's asked to appear by the show, like Xtina with that mess of a routine she did.

It's not really Rebecca's style to say anything controversial but then she's just brought out a single and everyone tries to grab a headline or 2 when they have.

I'm sure she was asked. She can't keep away from the XF. And she should've said 'no, I don't think my tarty lyrics and style are suitable', just as that shameful Christina woman should've done too.
