I'm nothing close to a fan, but I find it odd that such criticism is coming out now after she's spent a fair while in the spotlight, people should know that she's a weird sex-nut.

I actually think the critcism is pathetic-I take the point of young children being exposed to the lyric's fair enough, but for the press to paint her as some sort of sex obssessed **ag is hypocritical to say the least-the Sunday tabloids rarely talk about thngs that dont involve sex.

Good luck to her, she's selling milions of records in the process and **ck them!

I think that's one of the reasons she's so popular, especially in the UK. People are buying into Rihanna's rebellion as an artist. Currently, she goes against what's expected of her, I think some like that side to her and they're attracted to her relentlesness.

Whenever someone challenges the system, faces mass-popularity there is always a backlash of sorts.

Rihanna is facing it on a scale now....but nothing massive its just kinda random. Especially how people have said Talk That Talk has been released only a year after Loud but no one seemed to notice the gap between Loud and Rated R....nor the gap between her debut and girl like me and good girl gone bad.....i mean its kinda random!

Also sex obsessed....who cares? at least she is pushing for something new! Prince is always doing it...albeit in uite an eccentric and emotive expression. Madonna changed the shape and challenged society in her Erotica era and faced the backlash of the century to be honest! And the album thus became a massive cult album due to it and she survived it! No one could face that! and Janet Jackson has always pushed some smut into her work....its what makes her FUNKAAAY!

So Rihanna is challenging the Bad Taste/Commercial appeal....its what she does....like Beyonce always pushes the classy diva vibe, and Adele sits in chairs....Rihanna delivers sex appeal and sings about being dirty! Xtina did it too

Its just so random because she is so successful and on another peak right now!

Simples, Lady Gaga's reputation has already been trashed effectively by the GBP this year. Clearly her more preachy/less commercial BTW era and anti-internet bullying stance struck a nerve with the "online keyboard warriors". Hence, she has peaked commercially (for now at least).

So the next biggest target left in the radar for a backlash is Rihanna.

LOL-there is a whole other thread there-why does Adele sit on chairs? Or is Adele the greatest seated entertainer ever?

Build 'em up, tear 'em down... That's the British way unfortunately, and the tabloids reflect the public's glee in someone's high profile being trashed on a personal basis.

She's getting flack from the Western Taliban who find it easier to blame a singer wearing a mini-skirt on stage for their own failures as parents.

unfortunately i have to agree, it is a very british trait. with nameless industry females getting in on the act for whatever personal motivation. it seems popular to take a pop at rihanna at the moment. it doesn't seem to be damaging her popularity at the moment though. i get the feeling she is pretty thick skinned.

Rihanna is very thick skinned.

And i agree Britain ALWAYS finds something to take down, argue against, oppose and criticise....rather than simply ENJOY! if you dont like it then ignore it or move onwards. There is plenty to enjoy for everyhing! Jeez sometimes i am embrassed to live in a nation where there is so much to enjoy....but there is always focus on the bad.

I mean Madonna in 1992/3 faced the backlash of the millenia....i mean every single sodding newspaper or media piece will try to bring ehr down....very personal too! BUT that backlash really made that era of her life a significant moment of hysteria in music history...the Erotica album/SEX Book message....and in itself an irony of that era! And to this day the media try and negate something about Madonna and the sheep follow the herd.

Lady gaga, Christina, Britney, Adele and now RIhanna ahve each faced media criticism...some more regular than others....because they are famous and "need taking down"....why?

Never understood it and never ever will.

I will imagine when Madonna is back netx year the same papers will try and slam something and praise other elements. Rihanna will be criticised for more live shows performances perhaps, Adele will be attempted again, Lady gaga will be on tour....thats a rpess feeding frenzy....no one is safe from it!

But hey....Talk that talk to me yeah!

NOPE!

If anything i expect her to keep it up and push it further!

I want ehr next album to be called Too Much Information! OR FUll Frontal....OR Nothing Left To The Imagination

Tbh Janet Jackson has been selling sex songs since 1993! She had something to say with it however but still.

Why should RIhanna satisfy the media and critics when her fans love her regardless!

It always make me laugh when the media get outraged about such or such singer getting oversexual! The fuss radio 1 made with S&M and If You Seek Amy was just so ridiculous...
Having said that, I'm not gonna fool myself pretending Rihanna's oversexual's image is great, progressive and challenging the system because it's certainly not. She's being in your face with her well-rehearsed sexual antics, raunchy songs and videos but she's hardly pushing boundaries is she? There's something a bit off about her image and sex phase. I just don't understand it to be honest. I just think she's putting on an act and has little clue of its implications. Once again, I'm not thinking about how responsible she should be because of her young fans, I just struggle to see the logic behind it. So she wants to talk about sex and what she (supposedly) loves to do in bed? Great! And?...How is that supposed to be interesting and moving the debate forward? At 23, I should think she knows one thing or two about sex!?
While I love what she did with Umbrella, Take a Bow, Rehab and even Man Down & S&M to a certain extent where she showed some maturity for such a young age, I just think now her image is exposing her as just being young, foolish and a tad bratty. And it only reinforces the criticism she gets for just being a singing/performing puppet...

Hmm, I don't dislike her as a person, and I certainly don't think she's some sex-obsessed tramp- if you don't want your kids to be exposed to that kind of thing, you'll be hard-pushed to find any pop music that isn't a bit smutty I think.

(The only thing I will say is I'm personally not a fan because people act like she's some rebellious, edgy character, when really she's just another industry puppet that gets told which songs to sing etc.)

I just think what she does has got old fast. You can only hear about someone talking about sex so many times before you get a bit bored of it. She needs to find something else to help sell her music now.

It's what happens when someone is continuously in the spot-light. Even GaGa took a little bit of a break between The Fame Monster and BTW, but Rihanna has literally had a song out every 3 months for the last three years and has had an album out every year for the last six. I bet if she took a years break after TTT things would be better for her.

I think it's all very contrived and dumb, really. She's not pushing boundaries, it's not about feminism like it was for others, it just doesn't really have a point. I think her new album sounds quite silly and cheap, and I think after five big years of constant exposure (seriously, when is the last time she wasn't pushing a single?) people are a little bit sick of her.
