Will 'On The Floor' just be a successful fluke for JLO?

Despite the fact that Jennifer is a judge on the biggest show in America, a job that has breathed new life into her music career everything other than worldwide smash 'On The Floor' has gone dismally for her over there.

Love? while peaking at #5 has sold next to nothing. 'I'm Into You' failed to make the Top 40 and 'Papi' only just cracked the Top 100.

And it's not much different here in the UK either. 'On The Floor' was a massive hit; Love? has sold poorly; and despite 'I'm Into You' doing much better and being a Top 10 hit by the time of 'Papi' people (including radio stations) had got bored of JLO once again and it flopped at #61.

Has Idol really relaunched JLO's music career to long time global success again, or was 'On The Floor' just a short lived fluke and it's back down from here?

I'm confused by J Lo. She had a massive single, quite rightly too. It was a great track and she was long overdue a successful single. I'm Into You didn't do too badly. But now nothing.

I'd have thought she'd have just run with her success, but she seems to have just disappeared. Papi could have been pretty successfull too. I don't think it was a fluke though. I bet her Greatest Hits (due next year apparently) will shift shedloads. She's had more hits then most people probabbly realise

I just wish she would tour!

Unfortunately it will be the case. 'On The Floor' was her comeback, now people have had it, it'll be very hard for J-LO to reach that success again in the current climate. People just aren't that bothered by her these days.

No, it was by no means a fluke.'OTF' pretty much promoted and sold itself with no promo or radio support in the US.Even though it debuted in the top 10 on Billboard, the radios weren't eating it up like they were doing for GaGa, Britney and Katy Perry at that time. The follow-up's just weren't strong enough to turn into hits with no promo, that's all.

The whole era was sloppy because Def Jam just doesn't really support her (because L.A. Reid signed her and now he's moved to Epic Records).'IIY' was out, but she was performing OTF worlwide and while the video for IIY was released in April/May, they said that they were saving it for the summer in the US () so radio started playlisting it 2 months later...

In general, J Lo hasn't been massively successful since 2003 so realistically speaking, she doesn't have much power right now, she's depending on the odd amazing song to get a hit rather than on a solidified fanbase. She's still doing pretty well and she's re-establishing herself, though.Will.I.Am booked her for his lead single which wouldn't have happened back in 2008-2009, she got to perform twice at the AMA's, she started doing campaigns again and the album has sold about 500k worldwide which is below average but by no means a flop.

She just doesn't do any promo.

I feel like, Just like Britney, she's not giving it all for her musiccareer,

i know she's got other stuff to do also and ofcourse she's got her kids but then you shouldn't try and make a comeback if that bothers you IMO

Well, to be fair, J.Lo is an actress first, then singer. LOVE? was never intended to be a "comeback", it was just released in conjunction with American Idol. She's been busy with movies and TV shows.

But she has a greatest hits / tour out next year, so that'll be properly amazing.

And to be fair, when J.Lo does promo, it's usually flawless, like it was on Sunday:

J Lo is what you call a true definition of a "singles artist" it is thrown around randomly to artists who do have successful albums too.

But in terms of ehr career, Music has come AFTER film/TV. Its a part of her but she doesnt have to think deep about it. She has a minimal range but unique and shes happy with making commercial uptempos really.

Across ehr career in music she hasnt made an album to "change the world" "a masterpeice" "career defining" she just sells the hits. And across her career she has loads of hits....just never released a solid album at all.

J Lo On The Floor reminds me on a smaller scale of CHer with Believe....it was a comeback to popularity but not for her as an album artist....JUST Cher. You know? J Lo On The Floor was a song that reinvigorated interest worldwide than just Stateside! nd its still used in my Zumba classes....its everywhere played! And Papi could have ahd success if she wanted it to....but fact is it doesnt really matter...Love? isnt an album that needed attention at all!

In fact bar a couple i dont really like it....my mum plays it a lot however lol. But there are some uptempo tunes by RedOne that are quite good. But On The Floor did as intended....a commercial massive dance track that was typically J Lo.

And personally her biggest seller will be her Hits when she releases it....with a new song to promote it it will literally sell itself! Look at her hits man!!!!!

But the J.Lo we all know and love has made a career out of having the odd big hit now and then with being filled by nothing in between. I'd say she is due her next big hit again in 2016.

i think j.lo should be an icon for her years in music. i know she hasn't been successful since 2003 really but she's still been in it and on the floor gave her momentum. her Spanish album was good too. but on the floor has to probably be the biggest song in her career.

Nah, J lo is capable of coming out with smash singles even after being away from the spotlight for years. Her Greatest Hits is going to be amazing.

To be honest I think always has been an artist that sells big with certain big songs, but struggles to shift albums or 2nd/3rd singles from albums.

R-Kelly is another artist who can have flop after flop, or years out of the limelight, but every now and again a killer song pops up and is a big hit.

On The Floor was a great song because it is in the Dance/R&B style that is popular, but J-Lo's image (and also the great use of the sample) lifted it a class above the likes of Chris Brown and JLS who have put out similar songs
