Hi folks

I am thinking of jumping ship from SkyHD to Freesat HD and I was wondering if there is a particular brand that is very good with updates; especially on medium-term legacy hardware.

I want to buy a decent box - and I am prepared to spend the necessary money - as long as I can be confident that the manufacturer has a good history of supplying reasonably future-proofed hardware and also passing on timely updates as and when new services become available.

Does a particular manufacturer stand out?

Humax boxes were the first to get BBC iPlayer and itvPlayer, they are a bit slow with updates though. Samsungs PVR is supposed to be compatable with the new G2 Spec via a software update but I don't really know about the Samsung box as I've got a Humax one. You could save yourself even more money and keep using your Sky box as you'll get all the FTV channels along with the FTA ones, but the downsides are you lose the ability to use the PVR function and also get an EPG cluttered with all the Pay Channels thay you used to watch.
