Strangest partnership in Strictly history?
Just looking back at the Brendan/ Lulu pairing and how their dances struggled due to the massive height difference, do you think there any other couples that should never have been put together.
I'd say for me, the couple that sticks out the most in Ola and Andrew Castle. When there were so many shorter men than him that series (Don, Tom, Austin, Tom, Phil, Gary) I have no idea why they paired one of the shortest pro's with the second tallest man. |

Ann Widdecombe and Anton... though Ann Widdecombe and anyone would have been a strange pairing.

I didn't feel that any of their dance problems were due to height. They were due to the fact that Lulu couldn't dance and they clearly did not get on.

Looking back, I'm surprised to note how often they got it right! Of course, that might be with the benefit of hindsight, but it's difficult to see how else they might have divvied up the pros among the rag-tag of celebs. One that springs to mind is Stephanie Beacham being paired with Vincent in series 5. Although by no means overweight, she has a statuesque presence about her that might have corresponded better with a larger or taller dancer. Mind you, the same could be said this year of Vincent's pairing with Edwina Currie.

. Thank you!I'd say Laila Rouass and Anton. Her ballroom was lovely at first, but she kept having the crap kicked out of her for her latin and soon adopted Anton's "Latin is rubbish" attitude. And then her ballroom seemed to similarly suffer. I know she came 4th but she could've been so much better with another pro. |

I never got Craig & Flavia. He seems to have been remembered as clear-cut delusional and pompous about his own abilities, but I don't know that it was anything as simple as that. The whole partnership was very odd and disconnected and just like it didn't really fit, even in Series 7, which had a lot of uneasy personality combinations. The oddest thing of all being that people voted for it until halfway through.

Oh God, Craig and Flavia ... I felt so sorry for Flav everytime they go voted through, she must have wanted to scream.
Dom and Lilia, Gary and Karen, just awkward. It's rare when a partnership doesn't click in the slightest but these certainly didn't. Rav and Aliona really didn't get each other either. x x x x x |

Vincent and Edwina was also an odd match.
I think they wanted to try and recapture some of the "older woman/ younger man" chemistry Vincent so ably constructed with Steph Beacham and Felicity Kendall but didn't realise Edwina lacks the charm or grace of either of the above and so it was doomed to failure. |

I think Lulu and Edwina would have been better suited too each other's partners...

This is a tricky one to approach because it isn't so much -
well they were an odd partnership but more would anyone else have been better? That said, I think this series has definitely been the worst for odd pairings. Vincent and Anton would have probably suited each other's partners more, Vincent would definitely have looked better with Lulu and Brendan better with Holly (whether the dancing would have been any better is a moot point) and I've liked to have seen what Katya rather than Aliona could have done with Harry (although that isn't a particularly strange partnership; more that I think Harry would have responded better to Katya's authority than to Aliona's "Let's be avante guarde and off the radar and stuff the judges.") |

Definitely Anton and Ann. Also, Anton and nearly every partner he's ever had! (Maybe discounting Laila, as she was half decent.)

Laila & Anton sprung to mind for me too. It always felt she was being held back by choreography, as opposed to her technique. She may not have been the best, but I still think she'd have been better with stronger choreography, especially in the Latin dances.
The Harry/Aliona pairing came as a surprise. Especially since I thought it was obvious Harry would go far, even if just from fan votes alone had he not been a good dancer. Given that Aliona had reached the finals last year, I was expecting her to be given a celebrity that, on paper, wouldn't have been as strong. Harry I was fully prepared to see paired with Ola. Given their success in the Children In Need special a few years ago, I thought the producers would like that and tried to create a popular pairing. Dan and Katya were another odd pairing this year. Kind of like a Father/Daughter type pairing, where she seemed a bit embarrased. I don't know, it just never sat right. Then again, I'm not really sure who else Katya could have partnered. |
