You have to have the quintessential 80s song, which is:

Don't You Forget About Me by Simple Minds

That's the 80s in three minutes.

Amen, Prince was knocking out some quality stuff. When Doves Cry is a personal favourite.

This track was one, IMO: although it missed out on top 40 placement, despite extensive airplay, on both Radio One, and our local commercial radio station, in 1985.

As far as songs that actually charted in the top 40, though, this is my very favourite 80s track, I think. Right from the very start of the decade.

Definitely one of my 80s favourites, as well!

REO Speedwagon, Keep On Loving You, and, Foreigner, I Want To Know What Love Is, are two others that spring to mind.

So hard to choose one
But whenever I think of good 80s pop music I always think of Pat Benatar - Love is a Battlefield.
Such an underrated song!

So many to chose from, but if push comes to shove, I would like to nominate Vienna by Ultravox.

Although written in the 80's by Prince, Sinead's version was released in 1990.

Staring At the Rude Boys- The Ruts
Bette David Eyes- Kim Carnes
Rat Race- The Specials
Baby Jane- Rod Stewart
Time After Time- Cyndi Lauper

I was born in 1992, but those songs epitomise my childhood and I love all of them.

I can't pick just one, the eighties were the greatest decade for anything! Music, film, tv etc.

I'll just pick the song that I presently listen to all the time.

"Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" - Starship

Absolutely love that. Its lyrics are so positive but the song always leaves me with a tinge of sadness. Can't explain it. Great song!

Super track. In fact, I'd choose that as my joint 80s favourite, with Styx, Babe I Love You, and Odyssey, If You're Looking For A Way Out.

Ah yes release date 8 days into the new decade.

Thank you, therefore my favourite 80's song remains my former post. This would be my 90's without doubt.

Thanks you two, it's a shame that Starship are derided by critics now.

Another song that I've been listening to quite a bit today that I feel deserves a special mention (and to quote another poster) it's just on the tip of the eighties, Eternal Flame by The Bangles.
