Since Time After Time, Total Eclipse of the Heart and Walk Like An Egyptian have already been chosen, good choices btw, I'll choose one of the songs that got me into 80's music:

Billy Idol- Rebel Yell

Billy Idol was mostly known as a rather raucous person-when performing, and generally. Personally, I prefer this rare mellow moment from him, to his more characteristic offerings.

Billy Idol-Eyes Without A Face

Got to admit that's a true classic Phoenix Lazerus.

Having earlier said The Mighty Wah! am wanting to add a second contender. Possibly my group of the 80s (but can't say categorically - can one really rule out The Specials?) and love this track:

Stay A Little While Child - Loose Ends

Oh and what the hell, since I've already breached the one song rule:

Do Nothing - The Specials.

Okay this is getting ridiculous and I am officially embarrassed but can I really let this list go without this classic?:

Hold Me Now - The Thompson Twins

its obviously one of the most iconic songs ever (the opening bar...), But I played the 7" to death! Still adore all their other hits though.

ok, heres another way of looking at it:

A: The top 10 of what I assume will be 'the nations' favourites artists singles releases.

B: My own personal favourite top 10 of 80's releases, disregarding their chart positions...

A:
Band Aid - Do they know its xmas
Phil Collins - In the air tonight
U2 - with or without you
Soft Cell - Tainted Love
Human League - dont you want me
Kylie - I should be so lucky
Madonna - (hard one!) Into the groove
MJ - Billie Jean
Simple minds - dont you...
Duran Duran - The Reflex (fle-fle-flex!!!)

B:
Soft Cell - Bedsitter
David Bowie - Ashes to ashes
Simple Minds - Glittering Prize
Associates - Party fears two
Siouxsie & The Banshees - This Wheels On Fire
Teena Marie - I need Your Lovin'
Kate Bush - The Sensual World
Chaka Khan - I know you, I live you
The Smiths - The Boy With The Thorn In His Side

(the first half of the 80s RULES!)
