Ghost Town - The Specials
Agreed, there was an awful lot of rubbish around in the 80s but there were some goodies in among them, like these mentioned in this quote:

I find it difficult to take that one seriously after watching this

Now I know it's a different song but when you compare it with this video.

Notice the similarities?

Easily the decade with the best songs and artists for me, probably 50% of my favourite songs were from the mid to late 80s. Off the top of my head:

Woman / End of the line / Sweet Child O'Mine / You're the Voice / St Elmo's Fire / Moonlight Shadow / Wild World

Plenty of Prince, Inxs, Maxi Priest, Travelling Wilburys, U2, Jackson songs,

Loads more decent songs, you barely hear. Big Area, Somehwere in my heart, Broken Land, Birdhouse in your Soul

These aren't the best songs, but they are the songs I listened to the most during the 80s:

Oingo Boingo - Just Another Day
The La's - There She Goes
Depeche Mode - Never Let Me Down
Wall of Voodoo - Deep in the Jungle
Talk Talk - Talk Talk
Chris Isaak - Wicked Game (okay.. we all just watched the video.. until Billy Idol's Cradle of Love came along.. )

For me it's between:
Hall and Oates - I Can't Go For That
Cindi Lauper - Time After Time
Steve Winwood - While You See A Chance

I'd probably say Hall and Oates would be my pick

Not even close with Mandy, which is early 1975. Duran Duran is 1993 by the way, and I Know Him So Well is Elaine Paige & Barbara Dickson, which is slap bang centre of the 1980's at January 1985.

Checkout these two great 1980's songs, both by groups that only had one notable hit, and both have a Germanic title.

The Passions, I'm In Love With A German Film Star - a No25 hit in February 1981.

The Mobiles, Drowning In Berlin - a top ten No9 hit in February 1982.

Both are brilliant.

Under Your Thumb, Godley & Creme, I so agree. This made No3 in October 1981, which I remember, and was one of the first songs I put on my iPod.

I'd say Babooshka for the delectable Kate, her July 1980 No5 single.

For all you music lovers of the 1980's like me, check out my thread over on the radio forum called Virtual Jukebox - Radio 5 Live - Dotun Adebayo, where you can post songs that you like, preferably just one particular, say why, and maybe it could get talked about on Radio 5 Live between 0230hrs and 0430hrs Sunday mornings, or very late Saturday night if you like!
The presenter has looked at the page and mentioned it on the radio, so you may get lucky. Or you can ring in or text or e-mail too at the time.

With a list like that I'm surprised you didn't pick a song that made No2 exactly 30 years ago this month - Da Da Da by Trio.
