A non-celebrity Strictly Come Dancing

I think Strictly Come Dancing should have a non-celeb edition, in the Summer perhaps on BBC3, getting viewers into the Strictly fever. It would give members of the public to try their hand at dancing. It could probably last across ten weekdays (Monday-Friday for two weeks).

So what d'you all think?

Share your thoughts below, and we could discuss a format for this!

I think there should be an under 18 version!

Me me me! (Please!)

Remember I asked first!

And I'm sure my pro would be made welcome by Dawnswyr Caernarfon (our Welsh folk dancing team). Could be fun so see how he'd cope with following instructions in Welsh!!!

Another possible idea poth, they could maybe do this one year, and that the next?

Terry could dance with Brendan at last!

It's not going to happen.
More than half the programmes on TV include celebrities of one sort or another. It's the only way the networks think they can get enough people to watch a TV programme.

Come Dancing died, which included lots of good dancers, many known to dance enthusiasts but unknown to most of those outside that world. This included much of the elements suggested.
There wouldn't be considered enough interest in it, for the BBC to make such a programme.

We've already had one non-celebrity participant in Strictly - Nancy Dell'Olio.

What is it she's famous for, again?

I think it could work as a Comic Relief-type series, maybe lasting for a week, and the participants could be Strictly fans chosen by a competition.

I think this could work with a junior version. It would encourage my youngsters into dance and show boys it is not a 'girly' sport.

*note I don't think dance is girly, but my son used to get a lot of grief because he danced. Fortunately he's a strong personality; unfortunately he no longer dances.

Don't think many would have dared to tell Gene Kelly dancing was "girly."

I think this is a great idea....and could be done over the summer holidays, and shown on BBC 3

I guess it might be workable, but since you've mentioned BBC3, I can't for the life of me figure out why the original SCD spin off (with Justin Lee Collins) was abandoned.

If the BBC are constantly chasing the X Factor for viewing figures, why no spin off on BBC3?

Makes no sense.

It makes perfect sense, BBC 3 is focused on 16-34's and that makes up less than 10% of Strictlys over all audience. The X factor skews young , while Strictly skews old.
The BBC 3 show did awfully as the majority of it's target audience would never watch SCD in a million years. It was moved to BBC 2 as it suited that channel better.

I like the idea - particularly of a junior version. Mind you, we had the short-lived 'Dancing With Wheels' on BBC3 (I think). I enjoyed that immensely and I hope it kick-started more wheelchair dancing across the country.

Everybody tries to ape success - look how successful Gareth Malone's first series of Choir was - now we have other choir shows, including proper choir competitions that previously would only have been shown on Welsh TV, and even some Rock Choir thing that I sort of caught last night on some channel or another (sorry, wasn't really paying attention).

So there's no reason why other dance shows couldn't be commissioned. I'd like to see one where at least a couple of the pro dancers travel the world finding out about the origin of dances that we see on Strictly - if nothing else, it would be a great opportunity for them finally to learn the Argentine Tango properly... Any other ideas?

How many years ago was that? How many Strictly viewers could actually receive BBC3 at the time?

Times have changed. Are you telling me that the Strictly faithful wouldn't watch a BBC3 spin off if it was available? I mean really?

It would never work. Nobody would want to watch a smartarse nobody poster like me humiliated... they have Big Brother for that

Just imagine if one of the pro stalkers from on here got on it it would make very uncomfortable viewing.

I like the idea. Probably the only way I'll ever get to dance with Anton! (although being a little shortie I'd probably get Vincent -not that I'd complain about him either!)

Don't think it would ever happen though. Like the idea of the pros tracing back dance origins too but sadly doubt that would happen either

I like the sound of this idea, especially if we could choose a favourite to dance with.

I'd love it! Count me in and I'd like either Anton or Matt Cutler who would obviously return if he had the chance to dance with me.
