Actually, if they were going to have someone kill themselves cos of how shite their life is, I'd have plumped for Lynsey.

But frankly, she's had enough story of late.

Ooh new thread.

Exactly. And like, as entertaining as it is, Brendan, Mitzeee and Warren is hardly happy times either but no one has an issue with that!
Exactly.

Nothing has even pointed in the direction of Doug being anywhere close to happy recently, he's had a thing with Lynsey but he isn't completely over Bex, so why would the state of mind he's in change just because it's Christmas?

I don't watch soaps near Christmas to see people happy, that's for sure.

Oh phew you guys like it too! I'm thrilled personally Gonna be a sad one though.

I saw that on Tumblr and although I can understand the sadness, it's a great little story and a chance for PJ to shine and it'll no doubt end with him realising life is worth living.

I don't see what's not to love about it.

ETA: Yeah, I agree, c&s, even if you're handed rubbish stories, you should still give it your all.
Yeah thats exactly what I expect to happen too! Hopefully they'll put him with Lynsey afterwards as well. I'd love it to be a new start for him

I like it if they build it up properly but we've gone from "depressed about Becs" to ordinary behaviour, now Silas stuff has understandably made him depressed again but he's going to top himself cos he's lonely and has gotten dumped? Seems a little odd cos he does have friends! I guess it fits well with when he OD'd but it does seem to be happening out of the blue.
Yeah it is a bit They need to give it a bit of build up and I hope we get something in the next few weeks.

I don't hate it.

I don't understand why so many people expected happy things at Christmas. It's a soap, and all soaps have dramatic things at Chrismas.

I also think it'll be good to see what PJ can do. I didn't think he was very good throughout the Bex stuff, but I'm hoping he can change my mind. I just hope HOs take care with it, it's a really serious thing they're about to have him do.
Oh Christmas in soaps are never happy I think there's normally a storyline where someones at their lowest but somehow find their way. PJ's a great actor, I think he'll do it justice

LOL ally. I'll miss ole Carl, honestly. Wasted. They could at least have had him shag his way inappropriately around the village.

Ayla, I love the sound of the Doug story! OK, it's a bit sudden, but so's everything on HO at the moment , and there is something a bit desperate and lonely about Doug sometimes. I honestly think it could be the making of him. And I love that they're giving him something serious to get his teeth into. Attempted suicide is a massive storyline, and it shows that Silas has created all this damage. Go PJ, I say.
Aw see that's how I see it too I hope it means only the beginning of more storylines for Doug, they seriously underuse some of their best characters and with a plot like this PJ could really make his mark.

BIB: Me either. I don't think anyone does. I mean, EE always rates through the roof at Christmas and that's depressing as hell.

It'd be a different thing if they were going to have him go through with it, but it's going to be a little life-affirming happy story for Christmas. Hopefully with a correct and decent aftermath.

Woohoo! 69

Congrats everyone

I managed to copy and paste this when the old part shut down:

I'm quite excited about the Doug spoilers. I hope they give a bit of a build-up to it, but in any case, he's always seemed to have a rather lonely, rootless quality. Even when he's been having a laugh with the ladz, it always feels as if he's joining in because he's trying to be one of them when he's really not. He had (what may have been) an attempt at suicide more than a year ago too, so it's not entirely out of the blue. I'm looking forward to seeing what PJ does with it all.

It's just Ghost!Bex that's a bit iffy, but we'll see

I agree! I don't think those kind of feelings ever go away completely and after the year he's had its no wonder he's going down this route.

Yeah I'd prefer it if Lynsey or Ethan turned up to help him personally

He overdosed after the thing with Charlotte nearly killing herself on the drugs she got from him. It was never stated that he intended to kill himself, but he was deeply unhappy and guilty, and it was strongly implied. And then he ran away home to the States as soon as he'd had his stomach pumped, and we thought that was the end of his character.

It gives us more opportunity to see PJ's cute little face and exercise his acting chops so I can't see why that would be a bad thing. In fact it made me pleased to see his name so prominent in the spoilers

I do.

Doug said some pretty bad stuff about Bex the night she got murdered, because he thought she had just stood him up when they were going to leave together. He needs the closure and he needs to say goodbye properly, so he can finally move on.

Even if she's turning up as a ghost, I do think it'll be a good thing for his character. Cos he can finally get on with his life.

If Bex does come back, even as a ghost, I will be blaming some of the people on the main thread who treated her like bloody Cate Blanchett crossed with Meryl Streep.

She did some of the worst scared acting I have ever seen.

Oh I have no memory of that but then, freshers week was just so colossally bad last year, it turned me off the show.

I knew he went soon after but saw none of that.

But mojo.....

ETA: Oh I know, ally, the fuss caused by that bloody woman!

One day he'll get a story.

One day.

The only thing I don't like about Doug having a depression plot, is cos I badly wanted one for Ste. Le sigh.

Probably best he didn't get it this time though because Brendan's a bit preoccupied

Well, yeah, actually, I'd be furious if Ste tried to kill himself at Christmas and Brendan was nowhere to be seen to react to it.

It's bad enough I didn't see Ste react to him being innocent, nevermind that.

I would like some sort of long term story for Ste's mental health, as I've said before. Or an illness story. And seeing how people react to it.

No doubt, however, we'd have George telling us all about his brief brush with bipolar when his seventh cousin suffered from it.

Oh hello new thread.

Don't contaminate it by talking about *whisper* George, LMan. It's all nice and clean and new, apart from those dirty 69 jokes.
