For me they are in a different class to the rest - totally unique (as Simon Cowell said when the judges were raving over them a couple of weeks ago), and as last night proved they do not just sing opera. The young lead singer Jonathan has the X-factor in bucketloads - a huge star in the making, and win or lose the competition they will be snapped up by Mr Cowell. (I have an awful feeling that Louis will sideline them next week in favour of his preferred boring boy bands, simply because they are so different and he won`t have the courage to put them through ) - I hope I`m wrong and he is overruled by the rest of the panel. If they do get into his final 3 they have a very, very good chance of winning the competition. The public want something different and unique.

Spoiler
They kinda spoiled it for me when Louis asked them to come in to sing their first song and they did Bohemian Rhapsody. I was just thinking - so what, you can do that song well but what about another one. I only recorded the first show, so I don't know what happened in the second one yet but to me they just appeared to be a one trick pony.

No, they sang more than Bohemian Rhapsody. They are definitely different, and I like them a lot.

But until we hear them all sing live, then I wont be making up my mind. I always think someone is fantastic in the early rounds, and then they cant cut it when the show moves up a gear.

I dont see this happening to G4 though. They're the real deal, I hope.

I love G4. They are a breath of fresh air after all the boy band clones.

Well, I'm going to be brave and say I don't like them. It is all down to taste and people may be saying 'breath of fresh air' and 'not a boy band clone' etc, but while there is a market for such stuff, it will be limited...vocal groups like this may sell, but how much and for how long?

People are going on about the blond main singer...bit of a heart throb it seems (can't see it myself). I wonder if his pretty face has something to do with the popularity of the band? Something different from Eminem plastered around teenage girls' bedroom walls? Won't mummy like that?

It nothing to do with looks. He is a great singer and I do hope they win.

Jonathan is a fantastic singer. Did you hear him holding that note when they were singing "I Swear". G4 are a great group who will probably make the last three at least.

He really has an amazing voice and that is what sets him apart from every other singer in the competition. The fact that he is utterly gorgeous is a bonus. I reckon they could well win the competition - I bet SImon Cowell is kicking himself he didn`t get the groups.

G4 will be there till near the end. Their only competition may be Rowetta. If Andy hasnt been picked by Sharon then I am afraid I dont rate her three acts that highly.

Jonathon reminds me very much of Michael Ball, the same pretty boy looks and enormous voice. I can imagine him as a very successful star of musicals but I don't know if he could make it as a "pop" star (if that is what they are looking for).

I really love your posts dear Mrs.Zip,now, stop making so much sense
Yes,IMO you are (100% Spot on about this mob G4 though,"breath of fresh air" (Jim Royle voice)My Arse
Simon can see in the near future the "Opera Babes" being supported by this group at The Albert Hall and the merchandising tills groaning with cash, but I reckon he'd trade the lot for one "Credible Act".
(Off Topic)My choice?Nutty as a bat girl Rowetta...warts and all.
I hope you'll forgive her the 'Lager and Pills' act earlier in the show,I reckon like A.I. Fantasia did this lass may yet grow on you, she's a slow burn...but she does come with genuine frailty and emotional baggage, unlike milk maiden Verity.
I know that Rowetta makes it so 'Train Wreck' hard too watch her perform, although,I think that bit of danger is what secretly excites ol' High Pants, even if he'd NEVER admit to it.
btw: Good to see you back Mrs.

People criticise these shows for producing the same old same old and then the minute anything or anyone a bit different comes along people start saying it might not be what people are looking for,

Personally my favourite is Steve, I think he's got an amazing voice, but G4 are a close second (Lloyd and Rowetta third). I don't rate any of the 16-24s or the more typical bands and sorry but I think the blind guy and the girl are just there for the aahhh factor.

I've read what are rumoured to be the final 3 in each category and if they are right I'm amazed at one omission and one inclusion in the final 3 of the over-25s.

PIV, you're sounding jaded. Which is a BAD thing.

I really loved your posts during PI2. They were witty, articulate and, usually spot on.

Please dont disagree with me this early on....Rowetta is awful and G4 are different. Let's not speculate till we've seen all of them sing in the finals eh?

But did they ever say they were looking fro a "pop" star? I've never heard the word mentioned. They are looking for someone who will sell CDs, simple as, IMO. That's why we have people like Tabby (rock), Cassie (Katie Melua wannabe), Rowetta (Cleo Laine), Verity (Eva Cassidy) and G4 (soft opera).

I think Jonathan has the "Clay Aiken" factor (from the seconds American Idol incase anyone doesn't know) - the thing that inspires millions of women to fall at his feet drooling. He's just amazingly engaging and charismatic as a singer, as well as an amazing voice, great looks and style and a seemingly sweet personality.

That song they came up with in an hour was totally amazing. It sounded just like a well rehearsed complete performance.

G4, Rowetta, Steve and possibly 2 To Go are going to be big audience favourites. Sharons choices are going to struggle unless they shock us completely.

I think the winner of this competition will be totally different from everything that has gone before on other reality talent shows - my money`s on G4 - opera-style bands will probably be the next big thing. They are all great singers but Jonathan has the X-factor in bucketloads. A breath of fresh air and as we know Simon Cowell will be signing them - win or lose.

A lot of people are fixating on whether G-4 or Tabby will cope with a disco theme week. I think we need to get out of the Pop Idol show mind set, because I’m sure they’ve got very different plans for this show. Due to the inter-judge competitiveness there’s no way Simon (as a main player in the show’s concept) would allow a themed week that put his acts at a disadvantage.

As ikkleosu and pennycandle said, the intention of this show was never to create another ‘pop’ idol. Each week, the acts will simply showcase what they can do best. If the public like that, they will vote for them (and the votes translate into potential chart ability). If G4 can challenge the Opera Babes or Il Divo (Simon’s Italian version of G4) in the classical charts, then they’ll be rewarded with a record contract. In fact, interestingly, I’ve not heard much about the prize for this competition – does anyone know the details?

I think one or two of them needs to lose weight, don't tell me the looks of an act is irrelevant just look at Michelle McManus.
But on a good note they are original I think they could put more sophisticated music to the limelight. The way Busted/MFly did to rok the way Blazin Squad did to 'rap' (<well it was a success), G4 can do to classical music with a modern beat to it.

as always, ikkleosu, we have very similar taste...I agree with you.

But the live show will soon sort out the wheat from the chaff. Remember Rosie from PI 1? She was awful when it came to the final 10. She made me squirm every time she was on, it was painful to watch, even on her better performances. She just couldn't make me feel comfortable.

Hi Tally
Yes, Rosie was good in the auditions, but could'nt handle the live shows at all.

Will be good to hear them with music backing, I hope its a live band though and not just a backing track.

(and hello, Mrs Z)

Much as I admire their evident talent, I find classical voices and technique singing popular song about as appealing as fingernails down a blackboard. So I'm with The Zipper on this one: without the Two Ronnies to feature them each week, they've no real home in the current business.

G4 are going to shock a lot of their critics. I have heard them singing an Elton John song and it sent shivers down my spine. Jonathans voice was fantastic on this track.
