what does it mean when you retweet something, i know people that i follow fans keep asking for retweets but what actually does it mean

When you look at a tweet at the bottom it says 17 Mar DATE Favorite Retweet This is retweet if you click on this it gets tweeted again to the people you follow so then others can retweet it and it goes on and on to everyone followers
