I was driving along today and I saw a billboard with someone who looked like Brian Fortuna on it. I took a second glance and I realised it was a billboard for him in panto with Bobby Davro and Basil Brush

Who had top billing?

Basil, I presume.

Tommy Steele is in pantomime at the little "off Broadway" Lowry Theatre, in Manchester.

It comes to them all, some more quickly than others.

I'm sure one of Brian Fortuna's fans will be along soon to defend him , but in defence of anybody who takes part in a pantomime, it's not the end of the world as we know it. Hasn't he been in a production in the West End which is now touring? I mean, he's not done badly for a dancer, whose careers are usually far less glamorous!

I take your point about his co-stars, though...

I'll have you know that Basil Brush is one of my childhood heroes!!

Boom! Boom!

And Brian's play sounded really good ... based on the life of Eva Cassidy!

I used to like Basil with "Mr Derek," before he had the "nose job."

(Basil I mean).

I know! It's awful for poor Brian. It's been so hard for him working on shows like Burn the Floor and Over The Rainbow show that had excellent reviews.

And of course the Fortuna's Fantastics have totally deserted him, never attending a show, shaking a banner or posting on his thread on here!

Poor, poor Brian indeed

OMG! I hope he's getting some serious dosh. Several weeks in panto with Bobby Davro and he'll risk being beyond the help of the Viennese waltz queen herself - no, not Herr Siggy but our beloved Dr Pam

Brian's not alone. Kara was in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in Bristol in the 2009/2010 panto season before she won SCD. And Artem will be appearing in a CBeebies Christmas panto.

No, but obviously mine does!

And by the way, OTR was amazing; the guy can act and sing. And avoid Northampton on the 10th Dec as the Fortuna's Fantastics will be out in force!

He'll probably earn more in a 4 week run of panto than he earned in his last series of Strictly...

According to that article in the Mail that was posted on a previous thread Brian has been doing some acting lessons. Not quite sure why he didnt go home to America.

It's not a case of poor Brian. He's decided to train as an actor and taken some classes. He's done a couple of short films and recently made making his stage and singing debut in the tour of Over The Rainbow - The Story of Eva Cassidy (he played her brother Danny).

I think I read he thought after SCD and Burn The Floor he thought would get theatre work in West End, but found that wasn't that easy and that's when he decided to train as an actor.

The thing is the life of a dancer is one hard life, even those of the celebrity dancers such as Stricly dancers. The working dancer has a grueling life, very demanding physically and being paid fairly little, as there are more dancers than highly paid jobs. As most artistic careers, is the kind that you have to do because of your passion for it, not because you choose it for the money/fame that it will bring.
I think to appear in panto is actually a step up for him, builds his cv opens up a lot of possibilities hopefully.
And no, I am no Brian fan.

Having ~ahem~ seen the the paperwork for certain celebs, I can tell you that panto pays as much as 10k a week. It's a marvellous earner for a few weeks over Christmas.

Brian's going to be getting a good few thousand for a couple of weeks of fun (if intense) work.

No need to pity any celeb in a panto!

Tommy Steele still has a flourishing career in musical theatre

Matthew Cutler was on QVC last night with a group of dancers advertising Zumba DVDs. From what Zoe Ball has said Ian Waite teaches Zumba too.
