So the impression Holly & Artem's number created was short-lived for me. Still, I'm glad they decided not to go for a lift in the end!”

There was a lift; go to 0:30. I was surprised at the time that the judges (especially Len) didn't call them out on it.

I perosnally enjoyed their Foxtrot though; the music didn't distract as much as I thought it would.

Applying the word "dreary" to Holly & Artem's dance is just asinine. It might not have been the most effective of dances or executed as perfectly as some others, but it was still decent and very watchable.

Hated the singing but thought the dancing was lovely and Artem is doing his best with a pretty average dancer

DOES anyone know what the song was? Just so that I can avoid it anytime in the future!

That was a jump, not a lift. She could equally have done that move with a piece of scenery, it didn't need Artem to lift her at all.

Absolutely hated the song and had to turn the sound down!

The dance was OK - certainly not dreary - but seemed very slow to me. Slower than a foxtrot should be, I mean.

Holly looks fed up to me. I don't think she'd be devastated to be voted off.

Bored? Bored? Do you really think she was 'bored' dancing in front of a live studio and TV audience?

Not far technically from Harry's Quickstep. I loved it too.”

Go back and read my comment. I didn't say I thought she was bored, but that she looked bored. She needs to address that, because it is a consistent piece of feedback that she gets from the judges.........that she seems too laid back.

The music was a mis-match to the dance but i think it just about came off. Holly looked stunning and I think she did enough to stay in but it doesn't always work like that on this show.

Yup, definitely an assisted jump, not a lift, so within the rules, whether strictly applied or not. In any case, the jump happened before they took hold, while they were still faffing abaht (Len Goodman TM).

I think Holly is an above average dancer in terms of Strictly celebs. She isn't great, but she's certainly better than Alex or Anita.

I don't know why people are so keen to pick on her. Robbie, Anita and Alex are much more dull and none of them can dance at all. At least Holly doesn't gurn or gush. I like how normal she is.

You are right. Holly does look bored. She dances quite well but does not engage emotionally. She needs emotional expression and oodles of charisma. Mind you she's not the only one. Harry has the emotion of a dancing plank. (Runs off quickly before the Judd zealots get here!! Sorry guys!! )

I don't think there's anything in my posting history to mark me out as a Judd zealot particularly, but it's possible people might expect more from an actress than a drummer in the expression department. I actually prefer Harry and Holly's approach to the, shall we say, more extrovert one of some other contestants.

I think Holly sees this as just another job, she's made no real effort to engage the viewers, whilst Robbie is working it overtime, which I find irritating.
There should be a "happy medium."

Definitely agree with you there.
And certainly don't agree with the OP, that was far from 'dreary'.

I knew the song in advance and wasn't sure if it would work. But it did and I absolutely loved it.
Great take on the traditional foxtrot and Holly danced and performed it really well and there was lots of chemistry.

Asinine ?..I don't think so. People are only saying what they thought about the routine. You then go on to "damn it with faint praise" yourself.."decent and watchable" can still be dull.

Another one here who HATED the music. In fact, it was the first time in nine series I wanted to turn off the sound. I couldn't concentrate on the dance because the music was just so awful.

I thought Holly looked amazing and she dance well, but there could have been more FT by not breaking hold in the middle and I HATE that flippin hat. For me it was Holly's best dance by far.

It was another example of a DTWS routine - faffff dance faffff dance faffff.

The dance bit was worth an 8 though!

Apparently it was by Jessie J and was called something like "Mamma Knows Best" or some such! This mamma thinks it was awful.

I can't believe that some of the awful tunes used in this series are the dancers' choices, they have been that bad.

On occasions, the combinations of the music and the shouting from the audience it's sounded like the X-Factor.
I suspect that's the producer's intention.

I like Holly and Harry, both lovely and good dancers but a bit dull. I also like the more extrovert one. At least the more extrovert one looks like they want to be there and looks like they put in all-round maximum effort.

As for drummers, actors, actresses, whatever, I couldn't care less. You could use that argument about the dancing too. Cricketers, athletes, footballers, models etc have done SCD. We don't expect any less from their dancing or their emotions during the dance. Therefore, drummers shouldn't really be any different.

The foxtrot isn't meant to be an exciting dance but the inappropriate loud and aggressive music made it seem tame. I actually thought the dancing was pretty good, but please Beeb, match the music to the dance. This is not the first time viewers have complained about poor music choices this series.

You could "ballroom dance" to some modern jazz funk, like this,

Just checked out the actual track by Jessie J and it's still awful, so I pity the poor singer who had to try and sing this.

I thought she and the band did well, but it did sound a bit of an effort, the original artist is what I'd call "a vocal athlete" that doesn't make her a good singer, just one who can reach a lot of high notes...loudly.

Oh judges, judges I love ya but please just let the fabulous British public in their wisdom (or lack of) vote and let it take the effect it takes without you trying to sway it, please please!!

Yes nice steps from Holly but it had all the charisma of a bag of hoover bags on bogof. It was about as much a 9 as Miranda Hart is unfunny.

Passion, grit and determination in week 9 - give me a break. As Holly danced it felt like I was coming under the spell of that snake from the jungle book... sending me to sleep, slowly...slowly...now...slowly and you won't know I just sneaked in two 9's
