Gary Barlow has a beautiful voice, it goes without saying, but Carol's voice is absolutely gorgeous. His remarks were just plain bizarre.

The general consensus about Barlow at this stage is that he is just a complete idiot.
Talking utter bollocks AGAIN as usual ( I've just listened to the original version ), and unforgiveable ignorance coming from a songwriter - he should know better than to insult the person who wrote the song.
Of COURSE she should defend herself. Brian May & co. should also have corrected him when he was spouting total b.s. the other week about Queen - he hadn't a clue what he was talking about.
It wouldn't be common knowledge that Gary Barlow is an asshole if he'd just stayed off the tv. Sad, really.

Gottatdefend Gary here because he is right. I used to wince everytime I heard that song when it was on the radio all the time. Carol Decker is flat on the high notes.

Totally gratuitous and nasty comment from Gary, so he can't complain when she 'answers back' on Twitter. He was supposed to be commenting on Amelia's performance - how someone sang it 24 years ago (which I happen to think was good) isn't even relevant!

She wrote the song ! Nobody performed it before her and her band, so she gets to decide what the tune is and how it's sung. Ergo, she couldn't have been out of tune !

She is in her fifties, I think, hardly a pensioner.

She really isn't. Her vocal on the original recording is fantastic.

Best song choice in this series of X Factor by a long way though. Amelia did well.

Obviously not. Carol gives a spirited performance which is why they used it but she is slightly flat on the high notes. Listen carefully and you will notice it.

As she wrote the song, she knew exactly how it should be sung. It is one of my all time favourite songs. What a stupid thing for Gary to say.
