I saw a cat get hit by a car :(

I'm still in shock at seeing the accident. To top it off the driver didn't even stop. I saw it happen from a distance, and I thought it was a black bag flapping wildly in the wind, till I saw a bloke gently pick it up by the scruff of the neck and lay it on a patch of grass.

He walked off with his friend and dog, and we had to walk past where the cat was laying. As we reached it, it twitched a bit more then died. There was blood pouring from It's head, I feel so bad then I couldn't help it. We had to move away as i had my 3yr old son with us

Awful. I don't think I could've handled seeing that.

There is no requirement in law to report hitting a cat but there is if you hit a dog so no need for the driver to stop. In fact you could be held responsible if you hit the breaks to avoid hitting an animal and you cause injury to a human in doing so.

There is another thread on here about a lass who has had her cat run over. I have seen several cats at the side of the road dead and once was in the unfortunate position where a cat ran out from under a parked car and there was no way I could avoid it (as well as numerous times I have managed to avoid them as I have no wish to hurt a cat). my point is every run over cat is heartbreak for someone. Cats have effing zero road sense. Why let them out? Keep them in if you don't want them killed.

I saw a dead cat at the side of the road this morning.

It was one that I sometimes pass by on my way home from the station, she was very friendly and would often jump up on a wall & let me stroke her. Poor lass, she was quite old by the look of her, in her teens I think, but very well built. Much more muscular than my pair.

Ouch. Yes, that can be a shock. I remember once hitting a dog when I was driving home... Not really my fault, he just walked into the road precisely as I drove by, I didn't even have time to brake before I hit him.

Of course what was worse was telling the owner. I asked around at a few houses, got directed to the right one, and a woman answered with a bunch of kids in the background, so I had to get her to send them away before I could explain what happened. She wasn't angry with me or anything, just grateful I'd told her, but I still felt horrible about that for a very long time.

I had an even bigger shock this morning.

There was the old girl bold as brass, letting me stroke her, then jumping on a lavender bush going a bit bonkers.

The dead cat was a lookee likee. Poor thing.

I have tried not to think about since i saw it. It's a shame that you don't have to call someone to let them know a cat has been hit but you have to if it's a dog!

It was the first time i'd ever seen it happen, but it really was down to bad timing. I feel sorry for it's owner too

Thats easier said then done, Cats like to go out and explore. Some cats can be kept in but most are outdoor animals. Keeping a cat in who wants to go out is cruel. That is one of the risks in having a cat, there is danger they might get run over. I always worry about my cat going out.
