Work behind the bar in the Rovers? I mean it's one of the greatest honours in soapland to work there, isn't it? Is there anyone in particular you'd think would be ideal.. and then not so suitable? Including those who've worked there before, as long as they're in the show at present..

IMO, it'd be great to see Eileen Grimshaw work there. She has the perfect personality for it. A good sense of humour, knows the regulars.. e.g. Les, she's worked with him for ages now. She's wasted on the cab office at present. I mean she gets only a few scenes there anyway. And she'd be much more entertaining than Shelley is currently. Also, I think she and Betty, could make an interesting double act as they both have a dry sense of humour.

Sean.. Ok, I know not everybody likes him, but I think he'd be well suited to the Rovers. He's bright and cheerful, and the reactions of some of the customers to him would be hilarious. There could be loads of possibilities for him there. Also, he knows all the factory girls, who treat the pub like a second home, as well as the Grimshaws and younger characters.

The characters I'd like least to see behind the bar would be...

Sarah Platt. She's worked in the shop, the restaurant, the salon.. so at some stage it could happen that she'd turn to the Rovers. I think that'd be a total nightmare. Wherever the Platts go, depression follows, and nothing could be worse than having countless scenes of Gail, Audrey, Martin etc. all gathered around the counter consoling Serreh after yet another tragedy.

Cilla.. I'm probably one of the only people who finds her highly annoying as a character, but hey. Wendi Peters said a while ago that she'd love to see Cilla take her place behind the Rover's bar at some point. This idea doesn't appeal to me at all.. I think most of the characters who've worked in the Rovers have had a balance to their nature. Cilla's a 2-dimensional character, and her o.t.t behavior would really grow old very fast if we saw her more often than we do already.

Any other suggestions?

OMG, Garbage, I agree with you completely! Imagine Eileen and Sean working together behind the bar, it'd be great!! I'd hate Sarah to be behind the bar, she'll just have to get pregnant again so she won't want to work in a pub! I also hate cilla! She drives me up the wall!

There really is a lack of decent character action behind the bar - as someone said, the chemistry has been lacking for years there! Geena was good until they destroyed her character. Shelly and Bev were average at best, again because of the characters. Maria was dull. Liz is fantastic and I do think Fred is a nice comedy "authority" figure to have around. And of course Betty is a legend. But most of the time, great personalities are lacking. Think back to the days of Tania and Raquel with Bet - now that was good.

Awwww Raquel...now there was a great Street character, so individual.

She was always going to be a short-term star though, there was only so far that her character could be taken, in my opinion anyway.

And I can't even imagine Sarah-Lou's head even reaching up to the bar lol.

Karen would be fantastic behind the bar - can't beleive it has never happened once (or have I forgotten?). I reckon this Kelly Crabshaw could make a good barmaid. Fiz and Janice could be amusing.

People I'd hate to see there - Sunita. Like her, but too dull for that.

Lifeisacookie.. Good to know I'm not the only one who dislikes Cilla. I really don't see what's left for the character to accomplish at this stage. getting on the wrong side of the neighbours and manipulating Les can only go so far, surely?

I was really surprised to read over on the "40 barmaids" thread that Blanche had a short reign in the Rovers. It'd be really brilliant if she did the same again.. She's not used enough now at all, imagine how many barbed comments she could make in each episode if she was a permanent fixture in the middle of all the drama that takes place in the Rovers!

I think Maya would be great too.. it'd be amusing to see her take out her anger on unsuspecting customers like Les etc.
