Janet + Chili Peppers = not that bad
Kromm

Really, it wasn't. The judges gave her a lot of backhanded compliments, but it was probably the thing from her I enjoyed most since her initial audition.

Likely she'll go due to her first performance and the lukewarm judge spin on the second, but the second reminded me a lot more of the performances she has up on her YouTube channel than most of what we've seen on the telly from her.

It occurs to me that one of Janet's BIGGEST issues may have been song clearance.

I mean for all Gary's sh@t comments about her not doing anything different, all she'd have had to do was Gnarls Barkley or CeeLo like she has up on YouTube to answer that criticism. Or completely different in another direction, Regina Spektor. But I bet the show can't clear those artists.

I actually thought she did better with the RHCP track than I'd expected. It wasn't bad at all, so long as you are able to draw comparisons with the original. I'd love to here her sing Damien Rice Cannonball as someone suggested last night.

I found the inflections at the end of nearly every single sentence literally unbearable.

It was like she had the hiccups, and not only does it come across as very contrived now but it also totally distracts from any song she is singing.

Under The Bridge was her worst case of hiccups yet.

Sorry, I may be a bit ignorant here, but what are you on about Kromm? For any song that is performed, the writer will get royalties. The song writer however has no say on who can perform it!

She was again out of her depth, lots of long notes she couldn't hold so she hiccups her way through it which annoys the hell out of me. It's a lazy way of avoiding holding notes.

Bad song choice all round, didn't suit her at all and i wonder if she really truly loves the band so much, songs i love and sing ad-nauseum i'd do a far better job of, it sounded like she had never sang that song before.

I thought it was a fantastic, really underrated performance by the judges.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but it was a bit lifeless in the miffle section.

In person, no. On broadcast television? Yes. They do. (although its not necessarily always JUST the songwriter--often its some split between the songwriter and the publisher, or even other parties who have bought the rights--for example the rights to the Michael Jackson song catalgoue have moved around quite a bit).

The laws are going to differ between the US (where the Chili Peppers licensing stems from no doubt) and the UK, but not THAT much. A song needs to be cleared before it can be broadcast on TV. There's no getting around it.

Eh... at first I thought she murdered it. Now I kind of agree though. It wasn't that bad. It wasn't that good either though... I felt her voice lacked the power, technical and emotional, to pull off that song. Even though it was a lot better than mmmbop, I still think she was the weakest overall performer last night.

I agree with this only to add that even Amelia wasn't that good with her second choice in my opinion but Janet nailed Under The Bridge as it suited her like a glove unlike MMMbop but the less said about that the better.

Yes miffle players aren't easily found these days. I believe Bob used to be a miffler in his younger days.
