A loss not to the football world only but everybody. Never read a negative comment about him. Eastenders should add an extra scene tomorrow. Speechless that he's died . Thoughts with his family

It would be nice if any soap did something, just a line from any characters who are football fans.

Such a tragic loss.

Sultan Khan, an Indian musician has also died today. EE should include him in the scene if they do it.

Yes, it would be nice if they did. But with EE, the celebs that have died have to be the King of Kings for them to get a mention. Sad, but true.

Don't see why they should. It's a soap, there will be plenty of tributes to him on the news and related sports/football shows.

No, he's completely irrelevant. Should they mention every other celebrity who dies? Did Jimmy Saville get a mention?

It's probably a hassle for them to add extra scenes in for real life events. They only do it if it's necessary, i.e. it would be unrealistic not to mention it, for example MJ's death and the Royal Wedding.

My Aunty Doris died last week. I'll be expecting a reference to her passing at some point

Oh my god!

what is it with these threads??

No matter what happens it "should be mentioned in EE"

It's getting beyond ridiculous now!

Just a question, and I apologize if I am being gullible, but did you really have an Aunty Doris that died last week?

It would be quite inappropriate... he didn't just die, he committed suicide.

That wasn't known when this thread was started.

If any soap was going to mention it, it's Pobol y Cym.

Why?

He had no connection to the show whatsoever and wasn't a global figure.

Yes...

But it's sad news. Gary Speed was a class act, on and off the field. It's the nature of his death that's really saddening. I can't see EE mentioning him though. They only mention national/global stars like Michael Jackson.

They cannot do these extra scenes all the time, the cost and planning are big facots when it comes to this. I like how they do it it does add a bit of realism but if they did it all the time then it would lose the appeal and everyone would end up moaning.

This. We know they won't mention him but there was no need for people to pull the piss out his death by saying other people died and should get mentioned. It was just plain disrespectful.

I like to think of myself as a pretty clued up kinda guy, but I have to say, I hadn't a clue who he was til his name started appearing on Twitter. Then I looked him up. Why would he be relevant to any EastEnders character?

That's the problem with EastEnders doing it once. People want it for everything important to them. The other soaps are wise to stay in-universe.
