Can anyone tell me

Why do people post hateful threads about the contestants they don't like? Why can't they just accept that everyone likes something different and that includes types of music, singers, etc.

Some people on DS believe that their opinions are more valid than anyone elses, particularly more valid than the voting public or indeed the public who buy the CDs, DVDs, download songs etc.

Absolutely. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that does not give them the right to be foul and abusive.

On a slightly serious note, I kinda avoid the longer 'discussion' threads in this forum because the nastiness and negativity really does nothing for me and actually can depress me.

I don't mean that everything should be all pink fluffy clouds and rainbows but I cannot buy into the constant 'superfandom' which isn't constructive.

When I see the word 'hate' I really want to post 'ffs get a life' but that would be against the t&cs.

I'm new to the DS forum and I've been quite shocked by the venomous bile spewed by some of the posters here.

I asked in another thread whether they do it because it makes them feel better about themselves.

I think you have hit the nail on the head there, Spike. My opinion tends to be the more abusive and inflammatory the post, the more pathetic the poster. More than once I have asked these characters if they would repeat what they have just written to the target's face. I have yet to receive an answer.

Where are these supposed hateful messages people keep complaining about? Personally I haven't read any posts that would make me conjour up adjectives like 'foul' or 'venomous'... It makes me think some of you don't really explore the internet that much - you need not look further than youtube comments section to see posts that are 10x worse than anything that gets posted here.

So because it's worse elsewhere it's OK to do it to a lesser degree here ? I suppose it depends on your tolerance level.

I'm a Janet fan. Check out the majority of the threads about her or Misha and you will see examples about what we're talking about. What some people see as 'witticism' others may see as 'bullying'.

I'm relatively new here myself (although I've posted a lot in that short time). When I first arrived I was pretty shocked. You just have to get used to it or leave.

You can place the worst offenders on your ignore list so you never have to read what they say. I have three or four on mine.

1. Copy (i,e., cut and paste) the person's name from their username at the top left of the post.
2. Click on User CP at the top of the page. Go to Buddy/Ignore Lists.
3. Paste the username onto the Ignore list and click Save List
