Eric's problem in the litter tray!

As some of you know my cat Eric had to have a problem with his bottom sorted out with surgery a few months back. All is well now but Eric will insist on standing to do a poo (he squats when weeing) and as he has a bit of an upset tummy at the moment it's all getting a little bit messy..

How on earth do I encourage him to squat to do his business, any ideas?

Loads of cats squat when weeing and slightly stand when doing a poo. All my cats do this...they do kinda squat when doing a number 2, but the bottom is slightly raised up. I don't thinkg there's a problem with your cat...he sounds normal to me.

Yes, there are two definite different postures, bum much closer to the ground for weeing and higher for #2. Is Eric really standing right up to poo? Is a vet trip in order to help sort the dodgy tum?

He does indeed stand completely upright, the upset tummy seems to have passed now but when he does a poo it can 'catch' on the fur on the back legs. We think he stands because crouching to poo may at one time been painful for him, the vet totally mucked up one op and a new vet had to rectify the botch-up and then carry out a new op so his bottom has had a fair bit of attention!

Call your local vets tomorrow and explain that when he's doing a number 2...he's literally standing. Maybe it's too sore right now to really get into the best position to poop.
