SCD and Merlin did a number on X Factor last night

Quote:
“With seven celebrities still left in the competition, Strictly Come Dancing averaged 10.61m viewers on Saturday night, grabbing 42.2% of the total audience share.

The BBC One dance contest peaked at a massive 11.52m during the second half of the 7pm show. Merlin followed with 6.01m (23%) at 8.15pm

1. The X Factor's final five performed in front of 9.99m viewers (38.4%) from 8pm, and 245k (1%) chose to catch up with the episode an hour later..”

The ratings are really poor this year, by X Factor's usual standards anyway.

But this time last year it was crucifying Strictly.

Stupid of them to start X Factor early last night. Should have kept it to 8.15 and cut the filler VTs that would have saved them 15mins

Doesn't matter, Strictly turned into a circus show since 2007.

People are avoiding the ads by pre-recording it.

But ratings do look bad.

BIG changes next year, then .....

Bet Simon is livid.. to be honest so many people are tuning in this year to Strictly as the X really has had a very poor year.

SCD is far superior to XF no surprises here.

That's the only way to watch Xfactor. Use a PVR, skip the adverts, sob story introductions, the judges comments and cut short the poor performances by the contestants. I now only watch about 5 minutes

I am really pleased that Merlin has not only managed to keep it's ratings against X Factor but the show has increased it's ratings 6m is pretty decent. I think it speaks volumes that the X Factor has lost that family viewing image this year.

I could be wrong though.

The show is really bad this year. The judges are all crap.

They've just got everything wrong. The same thing happened with American Idol last year, but they changed things around and it bounced back. I'm sure the same thing will happen to The X Factor.

Amazing, considering how rubbish it is.

I agree this format has been done to death what with Pop Idol years ago and Xfactor since.

That's why I'm hoping the Voice will do well in the new year.

Compared to the X factor, Merlin is Shakesperian.
Even those who watch it religiously probably record it. The amount of ad breaks in one episode alone is absolutely ridiculous and pretty much spoils the enjoyment. Or it would do, if there was anything left to enjoy. I'm just going off what people tell me. I haven't watched for weeks

To me The talent is fine, its no different then last year. I just think when u lose 2 main judges like Simon and Cheryl, even danni, people tuned out, and some of the twist and controversy hasn't helped much either. I actually much prefer more of the talent this year compared to last year, last year was the first year I followed Xfactor, my only fav was Cher LLoyd. The over's category this year was way better then last year, aside from possibly mary, but I prefer Johnny and Kitty to mary. Both The Risk and Little Mix is way better then One Direction in my opinion, I love Cher Lloyd, but Misha probably is a better rap, and singing wise, the boys Category was better last year, and I much prefer the girls catergory this year compared to last year, aside from Cher Lloyd.

The ratings are down because the BBC has improved SCD. But also, XF is limping along. Removing 3 of the judges in 1 hit was a catastrophic decision on a top show, really playing with fire and the results have been very mixed. Also, the final 5 talent is not great and playing around with the format and putting Amelia back in makes the whole thing seem less like a genuine contest and more a producer manipulated TV format. There are far too many tired cliches now on XF. Even the US series seems tired and it's only just started!

I just don't look forward to the X Factor anymore - no wonder SCD ratings have improved, when comparing Wembley week to last weeks X Factor show.
