#1 on U.S. iTunes

Congrats Lana. Pretty incredible for a debut artist.

And it's the Deluxe Edition, the Standard is currently #8! No idea if she will hold onto #1 (probably not) in the only country that seem a bit sniffy about her (ironically her country of birth as well) but this will do for me right now Especially considering how vicious the critics have been over there.

PS I'm overjoyed to see my 3 favourite female singers in the Top5 on US iTunes - Lana, Adele and Rumer. It's like I've died and gone to Heaven.

"Radio" is currently on repeat, although it's not my favourite song off the album...it's just catchy as hell.

Now my life is sweet like cinnamon
Like a f****** dream I'm living in
Baby love me 'cause I'm playing on the radio
How do you like me now?
Pick me up and take me like a vitamin
'Cause my body's sweet like sugar venom (oh yeah)
Baby love me 'cause I'm playing on the radio
How do you like me now?
That song really is ridiculously catchy! From the first listen I had it going round in my head. One of my favourites.

Re: All the people saying BTD is "Dull"

I think a lot of people have come to Lana with the wrong mindset, I think because of the hype people were expecting some sort of a bubbly popstar and she's not that at all. Everyone I know who knew more about Lana than what was written about her in the papers has loved the album and it has been all they've wanted and more but those that have just come to her through all the hype have been disapointed because the media wants to portray her as a Rihanna masquerading as an indie star" which is not the case at all!

#1 and #3 on US iTunes now. Her European success hasn't surprised me, really (OK, maybe just how many country's iTunes she's topping is a surprise, lol) but the US is surprising me. A lot. If only the US critics had checked with Lana's old label before launching their vitriol based on her 'background'.

When did you all sign her?

It was 2007. She was a senior in college and had one more year to go. Our plan was to get it all organized and have a record to go and she’d be touring right after she graduated from college. Like a lot of artists, she morphed. When she first came to us, she was playing plunky little acoustic guitar, [had] sort of straight blonde hair, very cute young woman. A little bit dark, but very intelligent. We heard that. But she very quickly kept evolving. There’s a lot of misinformation that I’ve read that’s dead wrong.

Oh yeah?

Oh yeah. It’s a little bit of a lesson for me. Nobody even fact-checked. For example, her father never had anything to do financially with supporting her creativity. I don’t know if he was lending her money to live off of, but at least when she was with us, not a penny. I don’t know if he’s rich or not; I met him and he seemed like a pretty ordinary guy. But that whole thing that she was backed by her millionaire dad is a bunch of crap, basically. Certain facts about the record she did with us are completely misshapen.

Digital Spy on Twitter reporting she's currently outselling the entire top 10 albums combined on the UK album chart.

Born to Die (single) has dramatically shot up the Irish iTunes chart to #7. It was hovering between 20-30 all last week.
Now up to #4. Very impressive.

Does anyone know how many songwriters worked on this album? Does she have any sole writing credits on any of the songs?

She's co-written every track on the album. There's actually only 1 co-writer I'd heard of before I'd heard of Lana and then only because I loved Hurts' debut album and looked into it. That would be The Nexus but most people would know him as David Sneddon - him and his songwriting partner co-wrote National Anthem on the album. AFAIA she wholly wrote the tracks on her Lizzy Grant album.

So impressed and surprised with her booming success, I thought she'd be successful but not this quickly!

Nice work Lana, she truly deserves it, beautiful album!!

I know she gets a co-writing credit for writing the lyrics as most pop artists do these days. The reason I ask is because the Pitchfork review says: "assembled with assistance from hired-gun songwriters like Mike Daly (Plain White Ts, Whiskeytown) and Rick Nowels (Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven Is a Place on Earth")" and I'd already heard about David Sneddon so it made we wonder if there are any songs on the album she wrote herself.

Am absolutely loving this album. Had thought that it could only be an anti climax after waiting for it for so long, but have had it on repeat since yesterday whilst working.

I just love the whole David Lynch-ness of it all - if ever she was to work with Lynch and Badalementi, that could be something fantastic.

Lucky Ones is a great closing track, shame its only on the special edition (I still don't quite see the point of these - if the tracks are decent enough, just stick them on the album. And in this case, there doesn't seem to be anything deluxe about the packaging).

Reminds me of something else too, but could only think of E17's Stay, but not sure if it is.

And parts of Carmen sound like something too - an old Lloyd Cole track?

Whilst we are on the subject of a song sounding like something else. The opening of National Anthem sounds like Bittersweet Symphony to my ears. Obviously the rest of the song is nothing like it.

I agree they sound similar, also the first few seconds of Radio I can't help but think it sounds like Paris Hilton - Stars Are Blind

Its odd because the only track i dont like is Carmen, yet it seems to be a huge fan favourite!

I'm so glad to see it's currently at number 1 because it doesn't deserve those terrible reviews it's getting at all - I absolutely love it!

It just seems that ever since that SNL performance the media has turned and is just out to slaughter her so I'm glad to see the public seem to be ignoring it and buying the album anyway.

I just wish Adele would shift her arse off the top of the US charts and give someone else a chance #2 in US is still fantastic though given the backlash.

I think number 2 is great seeing as right now the US isn't her main market. Let's see how she does throughout the year, but for now this is beyond amazing for her and she deserves all the success she's getting!

The US is proportionately one of her worst markets by the looks of it so #2 is unbelievable imo. Before the album was released I'd have been happy with low Top 10 there so this is great. She hasn't even got a single at radio let alone smashing so fantastic result. A lot riding on Letterman tonight. She smashes it and who knows what might happen? She SNL's it and...

She pretty much nailed it on Letterman. She looked so relaxed, kept still and just sang very well. So pleased!
