Video Games has been in the Top 40 for 16 weeks now and is nowhere near falling out of it yet. Superb.

edit: The Deluxe Edition has now knocked MDNA off the top of UIK iTunes!

Was just on the Radio 1 chart show that she sold more than 117,000 copies of the album this week!

“OCC

25 year old US singer Lana Del Rey today triumphs over the recent media backlash as major label debut album Born To Die scores first week sales of over 117,000 copies, and outsells the rest of the Top 5 combined. In doing so, Born To Die becomes the fastest seller of the year to date, and the first album release of 2012 to break the 100,000 sales milestone week one and debuts at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart.

On its way to becoming undoubtedly one of 2012’s biggest debuts, Born To Die follows in the wake of 2011’s upward trends in UK digital music sales. Last year saw sales of digital albums rise by over 26% year on year, and Lana Del Rey has this week notched up a tidy 50,000 digital album sales alone in Born To Die’s first week of release. This impressive figure already surpasses Ed Sheeran’s 2011 record as the fastest selling digital debut for his triple platinum album +, though it is British rockers Coldplay who hold the overall digital record - current album Mylo Xyloto became the first album to top 80,000 downloads in a week upon its release in October 2011, racking up a tally of 83,000 digital sales out of total 208,000.”

Plus as i said earlier the Deluxe Version has just knocked MDNA off #1 spot on UK iTunes and the Standard Edition is #3. this bodes well imo because people are clearly taking more notice of user reviews of the album. Good.

Also from the OCC, 'Video Games' has sold almost 300,000 copies!

Quote:
“The album’s title track debuted in the Official Singles Chart Top 20 at Number 14 last Sunday and today climbs five places to Number 9, while debut single, Video Games, climbs three place today at Number 17 in its 16th week on the chart. Video Games has shifted nearly 292,000 units since release.”

Video Games is showing tremendous longevity. The album has also gone #1 on Amazon, whereas it was #2 behind Leonard Cohen all last week. All very encouraging.

So happy for her. The album is a fantastic debut; so well written and produced. She deserves this success with all of the crap she's had to put up with!

The intro, the "think I'll miss you forever" section, and the little instrumental outro are all amazing. Would love to see this get a single release. I can picture such a lovely video for it too.

I don't think she's particularly a singles artist (although I'm sure many an artist would be very happy to have their first 2 singles go Top 10) but to me there are more potential Top 10ers on the album:

1. radio
2. summertime sadness
3. national anthem
4. dark paradise

PS Album is #1 on Amazon in both CD and mp3 format (this has now gone up in price to £7.49 but it doesn't seem to have affected its sales)

Born To Die has set a new digital sales record in France with 17,000 downloads and by a huge margin (the previous record holder was David Guetta with 11,500) but as yet no details of total sales including physical sales..

PS Just translated the article (from Le Figaro) via babelfish and it's hilarious!

Le Figaro INFORMATION - With 17.000 specimens of Born to Die downloaded in one week, the star comes to make an entry crashing to pieces with the signal album of the digital sales. Ever seen since the DJ David Guetta. In spite of an album descended by criticism, the American singer knew to conquer the French. Born to Die is a genuine paperboard in terms of sales in remote loadings any confused platform. Lana Del Rey sold 17.000 albums in digital version in one week (of January 30 to February 5) and holds from now on the record of the best sale in front of David Guetta. Its album Nothing But the Beat had carried out 11.563 remote loadings during the week of its exit (of August 29 to September 4, 2011). The star is also number 1 of the sales iTunes in 14 different countries of which the United States and the United Kingdom. L' exploit enormously moved the young artist who made a point of thanking his fans by posting a message on his Facebook account. Thank you d' to have made this album the n°1 in 14 country. The soft words attenuated l' effect of the cruelest criticisms even. I adore you. Lana Del Rey knew to conquer C œ ur of the public with enormous tubes like Video Ranges and Born to Die which piled up 24 million respectively and 17 million sights on Youtube. What to go up the moral one of the singer, weakened by criticisms assassinate on its album.

Probably to show her versatility, I suppose. We gave our best friends the album as a gift as they loved Video Games but were expecting 11 versions of the song on the album. To say they were pleasantly surprised would be an understatement!

PS #2 in the US with sales of 75k, way above predictions. A new star is born.

Quite good considering the US haven't really buzzed about her compared to Europe.

She's number one in the midweeks today, 3,000 ahead of Maverick Sabre(2) and 15,000 ahead of Paul McCartney(3). No info on what the sales figures are like (although obviously they'll be much smaller than last week), so I don't know if 3k is a big lead or not. But both of her competitors are new releases and new releases tend to be front loaded so it seems fairly certain she'll be number one on Sunday. I'm going to put my neck out and say her sales will be in the 50-60,000 range this week...

Do we reckon she'll get another week at #1? I really hope so!

Can't see her being caught now not by any of the new releases anyway as their first day figures would include all the pre orders. I think this album is going to be a very consistently good seller in the UK. And France. And Germany. And hopefully the US. Ever the optimist when it comes to my faves, I'm going for it springing a surprise and selling 70-75k. I know, daft but hey ho.

PS The 15k ahead of Macca figure tends to suggest her sales are very healthy indeed. She's obviously sold more than 15,000 35k? Who knows.

Actually Maverick Sabre's album was released the same time as Lana's. I'm glad to see him selling well but hopefully Lana can hold onto #1 for another week.

Lana's sales for first week in US was 77k for No 2, a long way behind Adele 122K but much better than was expected.
