Of course she will...saying that she won't is just courting controversy!

Summertime Sadness IS a pretty good song. I don't like the tracks on the record that sound like they were produced for more of an RnB pop artist like Rihanna, but SS sits on there very well along with BTD, Blue Jeans, Video Games and Radio.

Not many albums dislodge '21' from the top spot worldwide (apparently, only 11 other albums have managed it in the last 12 months).

Currently obsessed with Summertime Sadness and National Anthem (Sneddon is a very underrated songwriter!). Amazing songs.

The only song I can't completely connect with and tend to sometimes skip is Million Dollar Man. Hopefully it'll grow on me eventually - seems to have that similar effect on some!

My solid favourites now after more time to listen and absorb everything are Video Games, Born To Die, Radio, Dark Paradise, National Anthem, Without You and Summertime Sadness. Such a special album. Addicted to this girl!

It's funny because Million Dollar man is one of my faves. The only one I'm not massively sold on is Lolita. Having said that, I don't skip it.

I'm assuming they are meaning 'shipped' copies here?

(AFP) – 4 hours ago
PARIS — Propelled to stardom by a David Lynch-inspired video on YouTube, Lana Del Rey's debut album tops sales in half a dozen countries a week after its release, the US singer's record label said Thursday.
"Born to Die", one of the most anticipated albums of 2012, has so far sold 800,000 copies, topping charts in six European countries including France, Britain and Germany, and ranking second in the United States.
Eighty million people have viewed the 25-year-old's videos on YouTube, their number rising by 10 million every week, said her record company Universal......”

The original demo recording of National Anthem has been posted on You Tube - rather excellent IMO

Yes, it was on there a couple of months ago originally. I actually prefer the album version (although I'm probably in the minority here ). Whichever version you prefer, it's a very well written song imo. Sneddon also co-wrote 3 great tracks on Hurts' debut (Silver Lining, Blood, Tears and Gold and Illuminated) so he knows what he's doing. It's just a shame he doesn't feel comfortable putting his real name in the credits but as we've seen with Lana once some people form an opinion on someone.....

I just love Million Dollar Man, her voice is completely perfect, the lyrics are brilliant. I don't actually skip anything on the album, I think it's honestly pretty perfect like she is

Number 1 again, with a 16k lead over Maverick Sabre. Don't know any exact figures but that must mean it sold 60,000+ this week, surely?

I love Million Dollar Man. I really love her style - I can't understand some of the negative reviews her album got tbh....to me it's amazing!

Million Dollar Man is amazing. I wonder will Lana be attending the Grammy awards later? It would be a good experience for her when she'll be cleaning up the awards in years to come

Maverick Sabre had sold 33k by the end of Thursday so it's guaranteed to be over 49k. Superb. And still holding up great on Amazon, iTunes, HMV and Play.

She sold 60,003 copies last week. Emeli Sande will definitely be number one this week, but Lana's number two in the midweeks, 3,000 ahead of a Grammy-boosted Adele. Both Lana and Adele look set to sell over 50,000 this week.

I'm glad Lana's sales have held up quite well, that's a good sign. I can definitely see this album returning to number one periodically.

Yes, she's holding up great imo. It's the US that's the big unknown, her 2nd week's sales were a big-ish drop from her first. Interscope need to decide what the actual debut US single is and send it to US radio immediately imo.

PS Per mediatraffic worldwide chart:

3. Lana Del Rey - Born To Die - 198,000

Total to date (2 weeks) = 525,000

Impressive.

I have to admit she is growing on me, I haven't actually bought the album yet but if I get any more into it I may have to!

Favourites so far:
. Born To Die
. Video Games
. Dark Paradise
. National Anthem
. Radio
. Without You
. Summertime Sadness

I still think the rest are crap, though they may grow on me like the above songs did.

Interesting article

Quote:
“Ferdy Unger-Hamilton, president of Lana Del Rey's record label Polydor, has said that the singer already has "three albums-worth of songs" in the bag for the follow-up to her debut 'Born To Die'.

Speaking to Music Week, Unger-Hamilton said that the singer is a "talented writer and a remarkable lyricist" and already has new songs written for a deluxe edition of 'Born To Die'.

Asked what the singer had in reserve, he said: "She had three CDs-worth of songs written, with loads of brilliant tracks - enough for us to do the album and a deluxe [edition] and still have stuff left for later records. She's a really talented writer and a remarkable lyricist."

Hamilton added that he believed the singer's career would have been "a disaster" if she hadn't been able to prove that she had material to match her debut single 'Video Games', as the hype would have been too much to handle.

He said of this: "This all started because of the power of a song. As we speak, 'Video Games' has spent eight or nine weeks in the UK Top 20. This project would have undoubtedly been a disaster with that much attention if she didn't have 60 or so songs written when we signed her."”

Am I the only one that really loves 'Diet Mountain Dew'? Its probably my favourite song off the whole album and its slightly more upbeat than some of the other tracks.
Hope she releases it as a single!

I love the demo version of it and listen to that all the time. I skip over the album version.

Carmen is still the best song ever recorded but Million Dollar Man is so gorgeous - the opening line alone!
