I also think the backlash is a little overrated in its size - most of her youtube videos have a dislike bar resembling that on Adele videos, i.e. miniscule. Maybe it's just that the detrctors that exist are incredibly vocal?

Again the same for every artist.

Unless they are still trying to gain attention...artists always will have backlash on a certain level no matter what because what they sing, perform and showcase may be totally parallel to others mindset.

Which okay it does ruffle my feathers a lot of the time BUT at the same point controversy, debates make it all so very exciting.

Trolling adds to the artists and fanbases power and shows you know when it works when someone doesnt like it.

Thats the point of Lana and others in a similar work frame really....you create a piece of music to make others think, debate. Its part of the Bad Taste/appeal factor.

Like Warhol and John Waters before her....not everyone loved their s-hit BUT loads of people embraced it!

Same with so many of the big guns and music legends - Elvis, Madonna, Prince, Springsteen, Frank Sinatra, Judy garland, Monroe, The Beatles.

You know just a handful...but even they face criticism today as well as praise.

Its part of what makes it functional and musical and exciting.

Sorry for being long winded. But i love that NOW how many views she has on such sites as YT, the hype already and airplay she has! and some criticism....it means she is on the way up BAYBEEEH!!

I am looking forward to this album as I love "Video Games". Very lovely yet haunting voice!

Talking of Video Games, I've just read that it's gone #1 in Germany!

Just discovering Diet Mtn Dew and of course I love it! I'm not sure if this song is off her old album or if it is from her new era?! What I love though is that it has the same timeless feel to it as VG,BJ and BTD. You just know if you listen to these songs in 10 years time that they will still sound so fresh.

And I also can't wait for BTD video

She did Diet Mountain Dew as an encore in Toronto recently (first time she has ever sung it live) so I'm assuming it has a good chance of being on the album. I hope so, it's yet another brilliant song.

Here's an interview with Lana;

I was quite surprised at her speaking voice lol. I was expecting a really deep, husky tone but she sounds really young and quite high-pitched I kinda hope she doesn't do too many interviews as it will take from the mystique she has going on.
She is incredibly beautiful though. I think her lips look a more normal size now too.

And here is a gorgeous, stripped back performance of Born To Die. The setting is lovely and so atmospheric.

Yes, we can all relax now - her lips are definitely returning to 'normal', lol. She just doesn't need collagen lips because like you say she is a beautiful woman anyway. I saw that performance last night and I think it's superb, although I actually prefer her singing the verses in a slightly higher voice like on the recording. But she has an amazing range, as demonstrated on the chorus. Born To Die is an instant classic IMO. Live, she's still a work in progress but I think she's going to be an amazing performer once she gets more experience, and the only way to do that is by gigging like she is doing. She certainly has the tunes to go all the way.

PS I agree, the setting is lovely and she looks classy in that attire - definitely going to be as big a fashion icon as music star IMO.

Oh yeah I can definitely see the fashion mags going crazy for her. At least no one can accuse her of copying GaGa! Really great that she has such an iconic image already - the "Rita Hayworth" locks being her trademark

She does have a very unique look, that golden era Hollywood look, I bet by this time next year every try hard bitch is going to attempt that look, but I doubt they'd be able to rock it like Lana.

I cannot wait for her to announce her tour!

The more I listen to that live performance of BTD poolside at Chateau Marmont the more I become a little more obsessed with it. Compared to the single, the very low notes in the verses were a shock at first (almost like Marlene Dietrich had been re-incarnated) but her vocal range is extraordinary and those high notes in the chorus. Wow.

PS If you have a pair of those weird and wonderful specs you can apparently watch it in 3D on the YouTube upload

PPS An example of the World's negative thinking at the moment? The top rated comment:

Lana's music isn't very commericial and I like that. I wonder how the US will warm to her.

The Del Rey Project

Spoiled for choice on what bad reviews to print - and if you have to resort to getting every post from folk who haven't been brainwashed removed - move this to an appreciation thread.

But then again that's not the name of the game.
