2012's big new artist. 100% convinced.

Edit: Even Rolling Stone are softening their stance!

“Lana Del Rey
'Born to Die'
DECEMBER 14, 2011 | By MATTHEW PERPETUA

Lana Del Rey broke big on the internet with lo-fi clips for her songs "Video Games" and "Blue Jeans," but the video for "Born to Die," the title track from her forthcoming major label debut, is as glossy and professional as it gets. It features shots of the singer making out with a hot tattooed dude in a glamorous hotel suite and lounging in an ornate throne room with a pair of tigers. Just like the song itself, it's bleakly romantic and majestic in its scope.”

wow I love the video. It is a little strange to see her in a slicky produced promo though after the "homemade" feel to Video Games and Blue Jeans

I love it though, its an orgasm for the eyes, its just so beautiful and very Lana Del Rey. She makes me want to be 15 again when everything was do or die!

I enjoy this video more with each viewing. I read that the concept was Lana's but no idea if that is true or not. Whatever the truth, it's a stunning first 'proper' video from her. And she is so mesmerising. I'd love to know the budget Interscope gave her for this. I'm sure a live tiger doesn't come cheap but 2??

Not seen it myself but 15 songs will do for me.

PS Not sure I believe it, actually, because China Doll is actually called Without You. Or that's what is written on Lana's set list.

The video really is stunning isn't it? A couple of my friends have been talking about her for a while so I finally gave in yesterday I took a listen... she definitely has something big in her!!

540k views in 24 hours - this lady is going to be huge in 2012. Unless Interscope find some way of clutching defeat from the jaws of victory, lol.

She will be huge, its now just acase of getting her out there and getting her to a wider audience! The music, the image and the performance is all there.

The view count on the BTD video suggests she IS huge in 2011. It's a similar view count to Adele's SLY video after 36 hours! It's just a gorgeous video. Interesting times coming up at Interscope Towers next year, I think.

Oh the numbers - you just love them- and as you haven't got albums to count as yet you'll settle for view figures because they can never be manipulated? No mention of the music as that doesn't really matter - it's all about numbers.

Lizzie will be the next big thing - the article below explains why. When did people get so stupid that they couldn't think for themselves?

How did the indie world get so much like the Republican party trying to choose a candidate? It's Michelle Bachman! No, I mean Rick Perry! Wait, [he was so seven seconds ago]! Newt, Newt, he's our man! Bon Iver is the new black! We hate Lana Del Ray because everybody else does! Now we love Lana Del Ray because everybody else does!
A flavor of the month trend that centers around what people recite to others, so that they can sound hip and relevant and "on the pulse of it all." Post the band to your blog! Name drop it at your next dinner party! Tell everyone at your after work happy hour that you're so psyched that you got tickets to _______________ . Post on Facebook the minute you complete that ticket purchase!

With all due respect to Justin Vernon and Lizzie Grant, this is more of a media effect than anything the artists are doing. Combine that with the fact that it's no longer the old gatekeeper media and as much the independent media of blogs, Facebook and Twitter driving the trends and the indie music scene has become more flavor of the month than England's pop music scene.

I gave Lana De Rey a really good listen today and I can confirm I am very excited and very much in love with her

Both singles have much grown on me. The songs that could or could not make the album are incredible. I also urge people to check out her very own self directed music videos because ooze with creativity and mezmerising to watch.

It's such a shame that the songs on her 'debut' Nevada will probably never be properly released again. Without exception they are all really interesting/different and some of them are actually incredible. It's not like big fans like me are overreacting after listening to just the 3 recent songs, her older stuff marks her out as a massive talent IMO.

My personal faves:

Pawn Shop Blues

I can't stop watching the video now as it is so lush. I love the dramatic contrast between the dark and claustrophobic car/hotel suite scenes and the vast, bright, almost ethereal cathedral scenes. It's lovely.
Only thing I'm a bit iffy about are Lana's hand gestures in the cathedral scenes. It does look like she is interpreting for the deaf or something Just think it would be even more powerful if she was really subtle there and didn't move much at all.

The only one I don't like is the 'get high' one - it's a bit unsubtle IMO. But the whole video just looks so incredibly beautiful, the colours in the French cathedral are amazing. Of course, someone like Woodkid doesn't come cheap but you get what you pay for.

This is the amazing video that got him noticed, I think:

He should stick to directing, though, he's no singer

Is 'born to die' capable of Number 1 in the UK? I can't stop listening to it. I love her 1950s Hollywood style and I think a lot of people are going to take ideas from her, musicians and fans and people. The video is incredible with the Tigers. One of the best videos in years.

I think by the end of next year or the release of her album, it won't be 'who is she', it will be more 'have you heard lana del rey' and the answer will be 'yes'. Her name sounds iconic and her music I imagine will be iconic, such a great stage name.

This is epic:

Her name is Iconic because of "Lana Turner" and "Ford Del Rey" tribute.

My prediction is by as early as April/May 2012 we will see the first 'Is Lana Del Rey Overrated?' 'Anyone Else Sick and Tired of Lana Del Rey?' 'Lana Del Rey Can't Sing Live' type threads

Yep. BTW her release is end of January for 'born to die' and the brits will be in Feb, so any chance of a performance on there?

It wouldn't surprise me at all. It's a similar scenario to Adele this year - album released late January, iconic live performance at The Brits the following month and the rest is (literally) history. And even though she's from Lake Placid, she apparently lives in London the majority of the time.

I think her album will be a real slow burner in the charts - as in it won't have mega sales straight away but will be selling consistently well all year as more and more people become aware of her music.
There is something kinda exciting about discovering an artist in the beginning stages of their career. I was so late to discover GaGa and other artists

I respectfully disagree.

Amazon Bestsellers Rank: 209 in Music

Incredible position for an album that isn't released until the end of January next year!

plus her album is also #2 in the Amazon Future Releases Best selling Chart!

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=amb_li...pf_rd_i=297457

Certainly in the UK, her first week sales will surprsie a lot of people IMO. Her sales in Germany should be pretty great as well as Video games has just started its second week at #1 there!
